Tennessee is a closer regionally matched description than the other four states (Texas, California, South Carolina and Georgia), which have comparable topography and weather, but are not quite as well suited for agriculture. Additionally, the areas in these four states are in relative close proximity to oceans, which the Pleasant Hill tribe had no word.…
One day in a place far away from south Michigan, a kid named Evan was running in a long race. It was an estimated 26 miles. It was his first race that he has ever participated in. His nerves were racing and his relatives were too. This race was televised to the whole state of Michigan. He didn't practice and is coming into this with no running experience. The only thing that pushed him to do this was that his dad was a four time Olympic gold medalist in running.…
I feel very fortunate to live in the South Eastern corner of Minnesota. It is a beautiful and unique area approximately in the middle of what is known as the Driftless area. As you can see by the topographical map that this part of the Midwest has a ruff terrain. High bluffs surrounding the Mississippi River and hills with narrow valleys are tucked between them. This area is said to be unglaciated. The bedrock supporting the bluffs mainly contains limestone, sandstone and shale. The area around the Driftless area was flattened by glacers and filled in with deposits as the glaciers melted giving the terrain a much flatter appearance and leaving the bedrock deeper beneath the surface.…
In the past 10 years of my life I have lived in two different locations. The first one is Knoxville, Tennessee and the second is Naples, Florida. They are similar in some ways and different in other ways. Both cities have a couple of months where their economy is strongest and months where it isn’t as busy. The enviroment between the two cities are very different, and lastly the type of people that live in the two cities. While there are differences, the two locations have similarities most people might not think of.…
One rainy day two girls named Lisa and Erin were driving to Colorado because they rented a cabin for the weekend. When they got to Colorado they stopped at the gas station for so gas. Lisa asked the cashier if they were going in the right direction to the cabin? The cashier said that they were going the right way but would take a will to get there. They spent three hours driving and then they see a sign that says Summer Lake Forest on it. Erin checked her phone to see if they where in the right spot and it said they were.…
In 2008 I moved to Bluffton to help start a new aluminum remelt facility called Alexin. I was one of three invited to make the move from western Kentucky by the presidents of Alexin because of my knowledge of the industry, my reputation as a hard worker, and my positive attitude. In the past nine years a lot has changed. Even though I know longer work in the aluminum industry, I still pride myself on my knowledge, reputation, and attitude. The job has changed, but what it takes to be successfully in any occupation has not.…
*Change isto the world as aging is to humans, inevitable. As I look out of my window, I see all of the changes I could reverse, such as the loss of my favorite tree and the missing yard space where a pool now stands. As I look out of my window I could completely change the setting and move to my favorite place, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Although I could reverse all of these changes and ameliorate my life, these changes have made me who I am today, and they have given me my memories. Therefore, I would not reverse any of these changes.…
Before I moved to NC , I lived out west. The demographic and food delicacies are far different than here in the south. My taste aversion was fully loaded hot dog with chili and slaw. I never heard of that type of combination on a hot dog. I was raised eating a hot dog with just ketchup, mustard, relish and sometimes onions. I have lived in NC for about 23 years. I finally tried eating a hot dog Carolina style and love it. Since I have gluten allergy, I skip the bun and still eat it that way.…
About 90% of teens that live in Nebraska have always said that anywhere is better than here. Melanie would be part of that 90%. She has lived here for all her life, which sums up to be 18 years. Now look at it from a military child's perspective. It could be the best place they have ever lived. For Sydney, this is the case. Moving from Kansas to Nebraska, she struggled to find a place to call "home." But for the both of them, they later find out that "home" was with them all along.…
While many people would probably choose to travel to another country, a foreign universe, or something even more extraordinary, there is no place I would rather go than Pawnee, Indiana, despite the fact that it doesn’t really exist. Having been a fan of the television show Parks and Recreation for quite some time now, I can confidently say that Pawnee would be the most exciting place one could go.…

My rite of passage was coming to Randolph-Macon. As I arrived at Randolph-Macon College on September 1st to begin my freshman year of college, I could not do anything but shake from being so nervous. My parents kept telling me that everything would come together and I would fit right in. I had never felt so out of place. Coming from a small private school, with a graduating class of 30, I could not bear to meet a freshman class that was as bigger than my hometown or my k-12 school. It was like I was a nightmare and no matter how many times I pinched myself, I could not wake up. I was trapped here without any friends or a vehicle to escape.…
When I was seven years old and almost a half my parents told me that my family was going to pack up everything, leave our home, our livelihood, and move to Idaho. I was young but I knew I was going to miss Albuquerque. I was going to miss the plump quails who walked quickly with their babies toddling behind in a straight line and the skinny, all leg, roadrunners who would sprint across the roads. I was going to miss my little Crocodile Smile green room. I had chosen the paint color, I had watched my room be painted, and I had to leave it. Abandoning my home was hard too. The front of my seashell white house had two, big, high, arched windows. They had rusty yellow stains running down beneath them that made the house look like it was crying golden tears. Near the grand maroon oak front door were some slightly overgrown, prickly rose bushes. Everyday the roses blushed and smiled at me, turning their pink and yellow faces up. I was mortified to leave my crying house with the smiling roses. The day we left, I found out we were leaving. I had convinced myself that we weren’t going to leave, but then we did. I left my home, my friends, but mostly my memories. My memories included early morning balloon fiestas, during…
The snow never disappeared throughout the winter. Making snow men, having snowball fights, lying on the snow, and skiing through the mountains, my friends and I would indulge in the vast shimmering snow world forever. People say that there are four seasons in Vermont: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. That is partially true—it even snowed at the end of April last year—except for the warm spells that bring unforgettable, charming maple leaves in the fall. The fall of Vermont is colorful, decorated by all the maples trees in green, yellow, orange, red, and even a mix or gradient change between them. The maple leaves form the rainbows near sky, the fineries of mountains, the unique blanket on road. They are the star and protagonist in the fall; they never fail to catch people’s eye. Never did I feel so close to the nature when I was in Vermont, living next to the green mountains and running streams.…
We finally moved to North Carolina and I was devastated. I felt like I had to leave behind all of the friends I had just started formulating deeper bonds with. I felt like I had to start over from scratch with making friends and I missed Khalif; and finding out that he contacted me the night before we moved and I missed his call, didn't make things any easier. I never told him I was moving when I found out. I figured since we wasn’t together anymore, why bother. He found out my last day of school because my best friend and I were crying, and another student went back and told him. He approached me before the day was over, and wanted to know why I didn’t tell him I was moving. After we talked, he gave me a hug. I didn’t expect him to try to contact me that night. I didn’t find out he had called until my family and I were well in NC and I checked the caller ID box.…
