Personal Narrative: All Shook Up
My junior year of High School, I was in the musical ‘All Shook Up.’ This was my first time being a supporting lead in a show, and I was ready to work as hard as I could to ensure I was ready to do my best when those curtains flew open on opening night. Rehearsals were going well, memorization was going well, and everybody has a positive outlook on the show at hand. One evening I went to bed, knowing I had rehearsals the next day, and I was eager to arrive and see what that morning rehearsal consisted of. A little after midnight, I woke up to a lot of yelling and rushing around, and saw that my house was on fire. I ran outside without grabbing anything, and quickly made sure that everybody else had made it out okay, and kept family members

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

In sixth grade, I stood before a podium that stared back at my English class. This was not how I envisioned sharing my love for reading and writing; however, it was required. My palms felt sticky, and I just knew that the entire class could see my heart as it was about to hop from the walls that kept it safe. I prayed that I would not forget the lines as I recited The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. In sixth grade, reading, writing, and I started a relationship. Today, we have yet to break up.…

In eighth grade, however, all the sadness inside of me slowly dispersed. I was begged by my friends to do theatre, something that wasn’t familiar to me due to its lack of popularity in the Philippines. The musical planned for the year was The Little Mermaid Jr., and the director needed more guys to fill the male roles. I checked in with my parents to see if they would allow me to participate, and I received permission as long as I could figure out the carpooling to rehearsals. Little did my parents know that my involvement in a single production was going to turn into a full-blown…

How could I have known when I dressed her in those cute butterfly tights and put her hair into two pigtails that I would never see her again? We walked to the park stopped for some ice cream at the stand right in front of the Empire State Building the one with the cute drawings on the sides that look like something Elizabeth would have drawn. She kept pulling at my hand, wanting to walk ahead, but I would not let her. I remember how the wind felt as if it was going to blow us away. I held onto her extra tight hoping that she would not fly away as if she was some piece of paper. We were at the park for about an hour when my phone rang and I looked down for just a few minutes. I’ve seen plenty of other parents do it.…

It was my sophomore year, and I auditioned for the play Our Town. Our Town is a play I will never forget. I do not know how, and I do not know why, but somehow God used this play to reveal Himself once more to me. He gave to me a cast that treated me as family and a plot that told of greater moments than this life. Our Town depicted what most consider to be unimportant, everyday activities and revealed their intrinsic value with each line and stage direction. In rehearsal we discussed multiple times the significance of this play and how it applies to our lives. By the time performances rounded the corner, my heart was near to bursting. A feeling of belonging and the need to appreciate every moment overwhelmed me. Most importantly, I felt a tug at the back of my mind, a quote from the Stage Manager, “We all know something is…

It was the first day of school, and I had just walked into 5th period orchestra. The period went on, with the usual rules and forms, but in the last couple minutes the orchestra directors talked about something called All Region. They told us that this was a competition where orchestra students from 4 different school districts auditioned, to be selected to play in an amazing concert! I was nervous and scared but excited for the challenge. I however knew that the most important thing was that I tried and put in my best effort.…

If I could live my life over again, I would not change a single aspect. However, I would ensure to cherish each moment more than I have. I have managed to meet several people in my life in which I now consider family. Although I may share no relation with the people, our bond has grown so strong over the years that I actually consider them family. Meanwhile, I am proud to say that I have a family that genuinely cares for me. In addition, the friends in my life are irreplaceable, for we have made memories with people that will last a lifetime. Regretfully, although I did enjoy the memories, I feel as if I did not cherish the moments with my friends and family as much as I should have. From going to baseball games to going swimming, friends…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. I took away quite a few lessons from that day: for example, that there is no better defense against stage fright than actual, adequate preparation and that you shouldn’t be afraid of failure because it means that you tried something new. Undoubtedly, these were very valuable lessons for me to learn, albeit hard to swallow at first; but the most important lesson I learned was the most shocking of all: no one is going to remember the time when you screwed up because they were too busy worrying about people remembering when they screwed up.…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

4 years ago I was at Volleyball we we're doing a drill called Ping-Pong. So it is kind of like real Ping-Pong besides the point that you are the paddle. So we we're playing it, having fun, and then. It happened. I went diving for the ball. Me and Lauren we're only ones on my team left. I was trying to save them. And then I fell. My foot and leg fell twisted at 100%. But that's not the worst part. Lauren did not even see that it happened so she kept playing. She by accident stepped on my ankle making the pain ache in my head. It felt like my ankle was being stabbed. When my friend Pene went to go get ice they all kept playing because I did not want them to quit playing because I was hurt. When Pene came back with the…
