It was a Saturday morning, but it was no regular Saturday morning. It was football Saturday morning my dad was driving me to my football game. We got there and it was freezing. It was 46 degrees Fahrenheit and we started to do warm-ups and 20 minutes later the refs called us over. We put our helmets on the 50 and walked out to the middle of the field and we elect to differ. They get the ball and we kick off they drop the ball and they recover it. They are down right there they ran a reverse and score a TD. We get the ball and they motion me to the left side and ran a 27 pitch we score a TD “wooohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Then we smash them on defense. then we get the ball back Tate runs a 17 run and scores a TD “yaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”…
It was a dreadful cold fall morning on November 7th and I was getting ready to board the bus for a state football game against the Becker Bulldogs. The police escorted us to Saint Cloud State under a lot of care. Even though I was a freshman and didn’t play much varsity, I was getting…
Our second game was against the former coach for UNA, Jason Anderson. Coach Anderson was the original coach who offered me a scholarship to UNA. The tension was high, due to familiar faces. We ended up having to play them twice and we beat them both times. After winning all four games we reached the Championship series. Humbolt, from New York, was our biggest obstacle we had to face. The team with the best two out of three wins was to be named the National Champs. The first game we played, we lost to Humbolt. The loss hit us hard and our spirits were down. All season we had not faced a pitcher that shut us down completely. Walking to the locker room after that loss, felt as if we had already became runner up in the Championship series. Beating Humbolt twice the next day, seemed to be an impossible task. We sat in silence as tears ran down our faces. Our coaches let us cry and let us get our emotions out. She knew the pressure we felt and the adversity that was staring us in the face. After 30 minutes of silence, one of the players brought up the games we had to play against UAH. Another player mentioned the victory against Valdosta, and we were instantly reminded that we were capable of anything. We knew that all of the hard work we had put in was not going to waste. We were not going to settle for anything else but a National…
In the distance, a roar of the opposing crowd commenced as the band began to shout their fight song. The white jerseys swarmed together to celebrate, while faint shadows walked up the home stands and to their cars in disappointment. The pit in my stomach only got bigger as I thought about all that I had given this game whether it was the grueling track workouts every summer, the demanding practices, or the strenuous nine months of rehab I went through just to strap up my helmet again. It was at this moment - as the salty taste of my sweat and tears dripped into my mouth - that I knew how much I loved this game and how much I would miss everything about…
I stood up and walked down the stairs to the court. The team and I went to the locker room like we always do at the end of the third quarter of the girl’s varsity game. Our opponent? The number one team in the state of Kansas, the Hanover Wildcats. With only two seniors, our team had a record that you don’t exactly brag about.…
Change. From the first breath inhaled to the last, we change hundreds, thousands, of millions of times throughout the entirety. These changes may not always be so obvious, whereas others are blaringly distinct. Change is inevitable, especially as the environment, technology, economy, and people develop. Us, human beings, we are flexible, able to adapt and survive. However, as we adapt to these changes, we can not let these changes compromise our beliefs and principles by which we abide and hold close to our hearts.…
he bell rang and we race to our cars. My team and I very happy knowing we had a chance of being champions. The whole school behind us cheering us on. From City University To Hamilton Middle School Chris, Aaron, Terrell, and myself smiling from cheek to cheek. We got to Hamilton and we gear up. I threw my catcher bag over my shoulder and called for the team to line up. Coach Avent ad Coach Blake started prayer. After they looked up and said “ We been preparing for this day all year.” Knowing everything the team had been through the last season before, no one would have ever thought the Hamilton Wildcats would be in the City Champion Game. No one would've ever through the Hamilton Wildcats would’ve had the season we had. Only losing one game…
“Bang!” I hear the sound of baseballs being clocked by a bat. This is the first time I have ever been in a tournament for baseball. This is especially the first time I have ever been in a dome. “Wow,” I gaze at the dome and the fascinating players that are here.…
So we kinda knew we were gonna win, but we didn’t want to jinx it and lose. We had a fantastic game and won 14-1. I had a total 0 plays out in the outfield and that sure was a whole lot of fun. I went 3-4 when I was batting which is ok but I could have gone 4-4, Since I wasn’t seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand I was late on the ball and was all in all, a bad game. Our season was doing really well and ended really poorly, It ended by us losing 9-1, We were not happy nor were we upset that we lost. but we understood we needed to get better. Whereas High school baseball is gonna be way better cause we don’t play the same teams we play easier teams. Which is nice because we will win much easier and not have any competition. The high school team consistently wins regionals which is cool and they have been to state a couple…
Ever since I was the Defensive Captain of the football team every little thing I did was noticed. With the coaches working in our school, we were constantly supervised and had certain privileges other students didn’t. Before every big game I wanted to relax and focus on the game ahead, but the entire school wanted to talk to you and ask questions about what you’re going to do. In a way I enjoyed this, the pressure to step up to the plate made me feel like I had a purpose for the school. I believed in myself and knew I was capable of meeting their expectations. Their satisfaction didn’t satisfy me in anyway but seeing my hard work and dedication pay off did. I cherished the moments when the announcer would scream my number on the field after a big play. These moments were immaculate in my eyes especially in front of the big crowds. One of the tragic incidents of my…
We were winning games by large margins and growing some strong team chemistry. Every game was just important as the other for us. This wasn’t completely true when it came time for our doubleheader away game at Cascade. Everyone on the team really wanted a sweep against them, as we didn’t really like the opposing team. Not only did we have a bit of a rivalry, but we wanted to remain undefeated. I was very tired riding down to the game, as it was early on a Saturday morning. Still, I was pumped to get out on the field. During warm ups, everyone was a little over-confident that we were the better team. We watched the other team warm up and named all their flaws. One my teammates said, “Look at their pitcher. He hardly throws the ball forty miles an hour. This is going to be easy.” At this field there was a big black wall over left field. Another player on my team said, “I’m gonna hit top black wall by the looks of this pitcher.” My teammates weren’t wrong to think that they could hit the ball well on this guy. As the first game began, we picked up six runs in the first inning. This was topped off by us having our best pitcher on the mound, Caleb Blair. Blair threw a shutout, giving up zero runs all game. Our offense was clicking the the whole time, and we won ten to zero when it was final. Everyone on the team was expecting the same result in the next game. We were confident that we could easily get the upper hand, as we had another one of aces on the mound. This changed quickly though, as Cascade came out with a new sense of…
The loud cheerleaders, the rumbling crowd that's all we could here. Caleb had kicked it off the other team number nine had called a fair catch so we couldn't hit him. So the ref had blew the whistle. Coach had yelled defense on the ball. We all ran out like a herd of cows. We all got in a huddle, we had looked at coach he had said pass block! The offense had got in a huddle “BREAK” the lineman had gotten down on the line and both of the wide receivers were on the line was spreaded out and the tight end was too i had gotten in front of the tight end i heard “HUT” i had took my drops and guarded the tight end and the quarterback had took two drops back that's how we knew he was going to throw it, he had looked at the tight end and threw the ball out of his hand at a spiral movement and number 52 and turned around and jumped. i was running like i had never ran before. I wanted to either intercept it or just block it, so i went for both. So when i had gotten to him the ball was a couple of inches away so i just jumped thinking nothing about it. As the ball flew towards both of our hands i had stuck both of my hands in the air. Number 52 and yelled mossed like he was going to get it but i had pulled the ball right out from the air and he had grabbed my legs so i couldn't get anywhere. It was fourth quarter with thirty-six seconds on the clock. We had the ball, coach said winning play!! So our quarter back taken two steps back and kneed it so the clock would run out. “Our team had finally defeated bremen!” coach had…
A little while later we were all waiting for in the locker room for the 7th graders to finish their game. Everyone was overflowing with energy and didn’t have a care in the world. Except for me, I had a very bad feeling about the game so I went and sat in the corner by myself. Eventually, everyone came over to me and so I pushed my apprehensive feeling aside and got hyped back up.…
The day started off well. Waking up at my usual time I rolled out of bed and got ready for the day. I had a long trip ahead of me but I didn’t want that to bring down my spirits. I was headed for Rapid City, South Dakota for a matchup against the number two football team in the state, the St. Thomas More Cavaliers. The Cavaliers had an impressive regular season, going undefeated and showing true blue pass offense, passing for more than 1500 yards in the regular season. We as Orioles were the underdogs as the seven seed. We…
It was my freshman year in high school, and I was extremely excited to start a new chapter in my life. Throughout middle school I was always playing sports, wether it was basketball, wrestling, or football I was playing it. A few of my friends and I decided to try out for the football team. There was four of my friends that wanted to join the team their names are Kyle, Andres, Alex, and Erik. When we got to the tryouts it was a huge difference from middle school football. There was close to 40 students trying out for this team, and three coaches whose names are Coach Cortez, Hill, and Bellecomo. My friends and I were amazed with all the bright new equipment, and the turf grass field that was in the middle of our own football stadium.…
