Personal Narrative: Americana Tattoo Parlor

From the outside it looks small, dull, and sad. It’s on the corner of main street and if you drive fast enough you could probably miss it. It doesn’t have much detail except for an occasional cardboard cutout of a cowboy that you can see when driving on the street. Walking closer to it gives you a better impression, there was a big red and white motorcycle peeking out at me through the window. Could I have mistaken this place for a motorcycle store? But the shop's sign definitely gave it away, and I was indeed in the correct spot. The sign read “Americana” in big black cursive letters with “tattoo parlor” in smaller letters. I could already feel the “cool” feeling I was going to feel being in a tattoo shop for the first time. Before this day I knew about the tattoo parlors in town but never really put much thought into it. Americana Tattoo Parlor is one of the town’s newest shops and in an even newer location. Americana moved to main street from a street that intersects where it is now. I remember passing by
A lot of times people get a lot of bad impressions on a tattoo shop because of what they do, but everyone is different. Becoming a tattoo artist is a process, I remember asking Jay-Jay what inspired him to become a tattoo artist and I remember his answer as if it was just a day ago that I talked to him “ I was always an artist, boredom got the best of me” Doing tattoos is something that grows on people and they’re job isn’t as easy as many people including myself picture it. “I once sat for 9 hours doing a tattoo, but I loved it” That serious punk-rock mean impression I’ve had on tattoo parlors is no longer there. It was small, dull, and sad looking on the outside but on the inside is a world of freedom and color. Everybody always needs a little color in their
