Personal Narrative: An Interview With Mr. Kordon

Mr. Kordon was my seventh and eighth grade science teacher. He introduced me to the wonderful world of science, but he also taught me how to be a better person. He would always come to class with a smile. Mr. Kordon’s happy, energetic personality was infectious. He would always try to lighten the mood and make things fun. He put you and your feelings first. If you were sad he would try his best to make you happy. He was always there to listen and to him, “it never hurt to help”. The one conversation with Mr. Kordon I will never forget is when we were trying to find the boiling points of different liquids and I accidentally broke a beaker in his science class and instead of yelling at me, getting upset or sending me to the hall. He made sure
I was okay. Most teachers would have gotten upset that a beaker got broken and there was a mess to clean up, but Mr. Kordon instead asked if I was okay. He wanted to make sure I wasn’t hurt. He cared more about me than he did his science equipment. From that day on I knew that Mr. Kordon was a different teacher. He was a teacher who cared, he was compassionate, helpful, unique, and most of all kind. He was a teacher who belived in you. He was a teacher who cared. He didn’t care who you were he believed anyone can be smart. He believed anyone can do anything. He taught us that you can always make a difference and always make a change for better. I would from that day one strive to be like Mr. Kordon a smart, kind, helpful person. A person who can bring a smile to anyone’s face. A teacher who put you and your needs and feelings first. A teacher who showed kindness can go a long way. We get asked if we have a role model and for a long time I could never find someone who resonated with me. Someone I looked up to. Someone who I truly strived to be. From that day on I knew who my role model was, Kyle Kordon.
