Personal Narrative: Celiac Disease
Life was not always easy for me, it gave me challenges, circumstances which were really hard for me to digest. But I somehow completed those challenges and tackled those circumstances. My family always supported me and helped me to meet my goals. I was in a town of the World’s seventh largest country, India, where people care about each other, they feel for each other. This was the time when I was in middle school, I was a moderate student in the class, so in exam days, me and my friends used to do sleep overs at my home and we all used to study together. We did everything together, we played together, we learned everything together, I was enjoying that time a lot. But I was constantly frightened of one thing in my lifetime; “never …show more content…
Now what is it? How it happened? And some others questions strike in my mind and my parents too. We possessed no estimation, my dad rushed to the doctor and asked her what is it? When someone with celiac disease eats foods containing gluten, that person's immune system causes an inflammatory response in the small intestine, which damages the tissues and results in impaired ability to absorb nutrients from foods. What? I couldn’t eat wheat, which is the most significant and most eaten cereal in north …show more content…
No one knew about this allergy in my city. But at least, I found the solution to all of my Medical issues. Now I just have to find things that I can eat. This was really hard for me to stop eating what I am consuming for years. I was not able to take that I can’t eat candies, chocolates and other stuff which I loved to eat as a kid. I started getting frustrated from this but my health started improving so I was happy. This incident just changed my life, I started being more careful for what I’m eating. Everyone started giving priority to me…ha-ha. I started giving knowledge about this disease to people near me. Everyone showed sympathy to me, which was not taken by me, I didn’t like that. I was glad with my life; I was accepting everything positively, as some years ran it all became normal, I went to college and everything just went fine. The only trouble that I faced was the unavailability of gluten free food. I had to eat only rice as most of the food contained gluten. But still I compromised because of my studies. My aunt helped me coming out of this, she bought gluten free products from America and send them to me. My friends accompanied me in college, they also gave up eating things that I can’t eat. Two years of my college were a big challenge for me, some of the days in college, I don’t eat food because I was bored of eating the same food. Going home from my hostel was like coming to heaven because I had

The modern diet for most nations, particularly North American, has become saturated with heavily processed foods. This spike in consumption of things such as refined wheat, meats, sugars, and fats has also lead to a myriad of diseases and disorders seen almost exclusively in developed countries. Out of these conditions one of the most misunderstood and varying is Crohn's disease, which causes extreme pain and discomfort and is essentially incurable. While widely debated, the exact cause of Crohn's has not been discovered which has led to several theories as to where it comes from. Despite the relatively large population of those who suffer from Crohn's, and the massive impact that the disease has on their lives, there is little understanding of the disease in those who do not have it, and even those who do. This article will seek to explain the symptoms and mechanisms behind the disease, possible causes and factors, as well as the difficulties and life changes those afflicted with the disease must face, in order to help spread knowledge and awareness.…

“Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret and depression. Do not repeat them in the future.” -Swami Sivananda. In the poem Itinerary, speaker Eamon Grennan demonstrates the ways in which individuals deal with the uncertainties of the past. The past has the ability to influence an individual to either move on despite the uncertainties and worries of the unknown, or to not move on at all. However it is important to do your best to move on and focus on the present and the future. This is also true in my own life. When faced with uncertainties of the past, an individual may choose a method of isolation because they are frightened to move on. They also may try to relive certain moments from the past in an attempt to find comfort in anything familiar to them. The individual will attempt to do so until they let go of the past and look at a broader perspective on life, which will assist them in moving on to see what the future holds.…

I want to talk about how I came across obstacles in my life in America. I was only eleven years old when I came to United States. I started going to school few months before 5th grade end. Then when I was in 6th Grade, I was the only Burmese person in school. I was bullied and insulted in school for who I am and where I came from. Before I came to United States, I thought everybody would be friendly to me and help me in anyway that they can, because I’ve been hearing all the great things about United States. When I got here, it was totally opposite of what I thought it would be. I had no fun going to school. All I thought about was to go back to my country, but something inside of me kept telling me that I have to work hard to make my parents…
