Personal Narrative: Chief Dave Cannons
When establishing a goal plan and putting steps in place to reach those goals, I must ensure that I have the proper support and resources. It is important to have people to rely on, share similar experiences with, and receive advice from. My former Chief Controller and mentor, retired CMSgt Dave Cannon is whom I feel is the best person to ask for that support. As a Chief who spent 30 years in the Air Force and as my first Chief Controller, he posses all of the leadership traits that I strive to emulate, he is who I look up to as a leader. Chief Cannon was my facility manager for the first four years of my Air Force career. I have yet to meet a leader in my chain of command who demonstrated all three adaptability elements, and was excellent at adjusting his leadership styles and FLRD behaviors as needed. He played the role of a facility manager, a leader of Airmen, a family member, and a friend. He was always adjusting, knowing what hat to wear depending on the situation. He is the type of leader I strive to become. The person that I chose to share my development plan with is my husband. Being that he is the person that I come home to everyday, …show more content…

Also, I must let them know where I fall short and ask them to provide me with feedback on how they feel I could improve. Lastly, I must regularly engage with them and seek out that feedback. I will discuss with them issues I have encountered and ask them how I could have handled things differently in relation to the changes that I am trying to

Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

I believe that a leader must be honest and have high ethical standards for themselves as well as their team. Confidence and communication are critical to getting the entire team on the same page. A leader must be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas to their team. In order for the team to work together as one unit, they must understand the path they need to take and what the result should look like. When the leader exhibits confidence not only in themselves but their team, people will be more likely to follow their lead. Lastly, inspiration. Having an inspired leader will inspire the team to see the same visions and future for the…

“A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others” ( (MacArthur, 2017). As individuals come and go in our lives, it is only those who make an impact that truly stay in our hearts and minds. I was fortunate enough to had many individuals in my life who have molded me to the leader I am today. CSM Lash L Bailey was one of my first NCOs when I came into the army, displaying everything that a leader should be showing patience, compassion and humility. As the army continues to change with society and toxic leadership continues to disrupt our ranks CSM Bailey has continually stood above it all. With his coaching and mentoring I strive to leave the same legacy…

Since you are the leader, you have one job and one job only, to be a leader. Don’t take a bossy role and boss everyone around. Show respect for your team, they think of you as their whole thing, so show them some respect and not let anyone down and not put anyone down. My personal experience is, well I don’t really have one because I was never a bad leader, I showed my team what to do in a polite order and this leads to my next point…
