In all my years of volleyball, there have been four very important coaches that I got the privilege of playing for. They molded me into the player I am today. I love them dearly and appreciate them more than they realize. I never would have gotten here without them. They have pushed me hard and there
have definitely been times where I thought they were overdoing it, but I realized that it just made me mentally and physically stronger. One coach that has been consistent in my life is Shane Hagar. He has yelled and insulted me more times then I can count, but he is still a great coach. There was one thing that he said to me that will stick with me forever. He said “Alyssa, you will never get into a D1 school because you are too short.” Those words hit me hard but they inspired me. I know I can’t grow before college but I do know that I can work my hardest and prove to colleges that I am a player they want on their team.
Because I am going to be a junior next year, college scouts will be popping in and out of games. I want to impress them and show them how passionate I am about the sport. I want them to see how much I love to play and how hard I have worked to get to where I am now. I have spent years concentrating and learning and now I finally get to show my knowledge out on the court. I have always wanted to be the best I could be in everything I did because that is how I was raised, but ever since volleyball came into my life, I realized that I have never wanted something so bad in my life. As long as I push myself, I know I can accomplish great things.
