Personal Narrative-Conformity In The 21st Century
In the sea of conformity infested in todays world it is difficult to believe the age old wisdom

“Everyone is unique and each has his/her own purpose”.With thousands of careear options it seems

majority of people are lost nowadays, lacking a purpose.I too was lost not so long ago.But

fortunately I met my calling at an early age, suddenly everythoing became clear to me.It was in

front of my eyes all along and I did'nt even realize it.Not only i enjoyed it,it was one thing that

iwas really passaionate about and spoke to me at cellular level.I could work 20 hours straight and

still feel wanting. It was my affair with technology and computers.I was very fortunate to be borned

in the 90's the era which coincided with exponential devlopment in

the process changing to service oriented model especially software as a service. It's clear to me that

the future lies in software as a service. With far reaching advantages for the buissiness and the

customers. With buissness utilizing the power of cloud computing they reap humongus benifits

such as a fraction of the innital investment cost, flexible infrastructure, increased efficiency, better

performance per dollar due to economies of mass scale and reduced maintainence.Customers reap

benifits such as no upfront cost, nominal monthly fee, flexible plans, performance on demand and

the list goes on.It is clear to me that internet together with cloud computing are two of many

pillars that a buissness or an individual must absolutely master for remaining relevant in the

future. And CMU has one of the most prestigious and reputed courses in cloud computing in the

world, this made me enthralled about the course. But the e-buissness course covers not just two but

all the pillers those are required for success in future, from futurisic subjects like Ubiquitous computing

to the absolute required such as java and j2ee with such remarkable professors and every thing in

between. It became clear that this was an ideal course for

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you pleased, or do you immediately come up with an endless list of insecurities? As a child one of my favorite memories was laying around the house with my older sister on rainy days. We would leave the windows open so we could hear the rain coming down on the tin roof over our patio, while watching reruns of our favorite tv show “America's Next Top Model”. I always thought that these women were gorgeous and I would catch myself constantly comparing their looks to my own. I wanted to be just like them until I realized the unrealistic expectations that they had to live up to. A sizeable butt and breasts, but not too large; they have got to be proportional. A skinny waist, impeccable hair, blemish free face although even with clear skin you are expected to cake on makeup because no one is actually pretty without mile long eyelashes, the perfect smoky eye, and exemplary contouring. Society has idolized these things as “beautiful” and shamed the girls that do not meet these standards; however, society should be making everyone feel confident in their bodies. Girls need to know that it is okay not to have an “hourglass figure” so they don’t…

It was grand Final day at the Wimborne sports ground my stomach was churning inside of me. I Stumbled to my hands and began to throw up in one of the shrubs in the car park. I was interrupted by dads laughing “You sissy stop begin a girl and get with your team we’ve got a grand final to win!” I replied back “Well actually dad if you remember, the only reason our team made it to the grand final was because of me” my dad just laughed and said “Sure, sure whatever you believe Aden”. The only reason dad named me Aden was because my dad believed that one day I would hopefully grow up as some tough rugby league super star like Greg Inglis or Sam Thaiday. But no I am nothing more than a sticker figure, with shorter hair and gleaming blue eyes. Every…

Life is like a masquerade, everyone wears a mask to conceal their flaws, weaknesses, fears, and past mistakes. Everyone wears a mask to hide the fact that they’re human. I am the eldest of three to a school teacher and professional musician turned deli clerk. I grew up on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Like most of my classmates, I qualified for free or reduced lunch. It is difficult for families to find any house to rent year-round, never mind a safe one. I remember in one house we weren’t allowed to jump, or run for fear the floor collapsing. I had classmates who didn’t have enough to eat; one of my best friends in middle school was a foster child whose mother struggled with addiction. I was among the few who, though poor, was well cared for and loved by my happily married parents. I believe that in a “civilized” society no one should have to struggle for the most basic necessities. At first, I was not…

To find oneself is one of life’s many challenges, we become who we are at different points in our lives, but as early as one liberates itself from the womb we are enveloped in an extremely colorful world. We try different foods, read different books, watch different shows, and our brains evaluate what we like and dislike. Thus, we develop opinions, and as we age we learn more and more, constantly accessing different information. We learn sports, we figure out we don’t like sports, and maybe we like poetry. Perhaps your best friend is in love with boys, perhaps you are in love with girls, and maybe you both share an impeccable adoration for ice cream sundaes. Truly, if we all agreed on everything, what would be the fun in that?…

The fake grass was deeply green like usual, the sun continued to shine like it did everyday till 7 o’clock sharp, and as everyone wore their dull white shirts, I thought to myself “why did our society end up so euphoric?” Was I the only one who thought about the world before “The great crisis” or did someone else think the same way as me? It was 5080 and “the great crisis” happened about 300 years ago way before I was born, no one ever speaked of the old America, because it was considered a crime to think of such evil. But tomorrow was every girl in the 10th grades birthday, we were all turning 15, this meant that 10 out of the 43 girls would be picked as interns to the woman elders who society called the wise women. Each and everyday people walk the halls of this school. You see people walking on the streets in their neighborhood. They are all walking forward. Why? That is what is normal. We have been doing it this “normal” way since humans could walk. Baby's first learning to walk don't walk backwards do they? No, they are biologically programmed to move forward. I wanted the breaking of my norm to be obvious. What better way than to walk backwards and go “against the crowd”.…
