Actually, I can’t say with confidence that it’s the radio at all. I’ve swapped it out three times, finally settling on an ancient cassette deck excavated from a musty box in my garage. But it’s not the station, or who’s speaking, or even how modern (or ancient) the radio is. There’s something in the air and it has a home: The Silver Memorial Bridge.…
A “Worn Path” by Eudora Welty is about an elderly woman who encounters many difficulties during her journey to get medicine for her grandson. The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell is about the journeys that hero’s make and the many things they encounter. Phoenix's journey corresponds to the hero’s journey in several different ways. The helpers, guardians, and tests prove that their journeys are similar.…
In 1991, my brother was born with Meconium Aspiration which is the swallowing of his own bowel movement. As a result, he was in a vegetative state at the infancy stage and suffered severe intellectual and developmental delays. With the appropriate referrals to (a) neonatal care hospitals, (b) behavioral intervention specialists, (c) social workers, (d) speech language pathologist, and (e) occupational and physical therapist, he made a full recovery. Notwithstanding the past medical mistakes, the early interventions helped him to reach developmental milestones at a latent age. Moreover, the use of early interventions led him to the normal adaptation to his interpersonal, social, economic, and political environments.…
For a few summers after my daddy went to heaven, I found myself taking long walks into the woods, a far piece behind the back of my house. When I was young I’d play there every day and over time the trails grew wide. I knew those chaotic mazes as well as my own reflection in the Miner’s River. Sometimes I’d count the steps it took to reach a fork on a specific trail, having already decided which trail to take till I arrived.…
Copper, my dog that I had had since I was borne, was dying. I couldn’t believe my ears. I ran up to my living room and saw Copper lying on the floor. He was a thirteen year old dog and that was a very good age for a dog to die at. I ran up to him and lay there beside him until my dad had to take him to the vet to get put down.…
Throughout my life, I have faced a number of crucibles but one, in particular, is more prominent than the rest. About five years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, a traumatic experience that affected my entire family. Each member of my immediate family chose to deal with the news in different ways, however, I am the only one that elected to live in denial. Sadly, the only way I knew how to cope with such devastating news was to continue living my life as if nothing was happening. Denial is simply unsustainable as you cannot escape the memories that the crucible has formed. Nevertheless, years after my mom was originally diagnosed I began to appreciate the experience for what it was rather than shy away from it; developing hardiness.…
“Scrape, Scrape, Scrape” high pitched screeching sounds fill the tiny cabin. I turn to the other three girls who wore an identical petrified look in their eyes. “Scrape, Scrape, Scrape” penetrates our eardrums, once again adding to the growing panic. I attempt to evaluate the situation as best as my 4th-grade self can. We are in our seemingly “safe” camp cabin full of eight girls and two high school counselors in a separate room. “Scrape, Scrape, Scrape” dread begins piling up in the pit of my stomach. ”It’s the shovel man!” a cabin mate blurts out. I huddle next to the girl quivering beside me, using her radiating body warmth to substitute for the chill in this grave of a room. “Creak” the door inches open.…
Time is winding down and the past thirty nine weeks has been nothing short but amazing. It has been full of different emotions and feelings. From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. What is this? Is this how it's assume to feel or even resemble? It's kind of insane how you, only one individual,…

Something that changed me and let me be the person who I am today is friendship. Friends can raise you high above the skies. Or, they can pull you down under the ground.…
In March 2011, I took a few days of classes and received my hunting education certification. Looking back, the actual class time is just a blur of what not to do, but I was reminded of them when I took drivers education last December, with the what not to do teachings. I also remember being very nervous about the test, but having a great feeling when I learned I passed. That October, I remember being immensely excited to go on my first hunt. The night before my dad and I left, I had a parent teacher conference and I remember getting some strange looks in the parking lot because we had a trailer loaded with tents, four wheelers, chairs, and a bunch of other stuff…
I turn on my welder and sparks begin to fly, what will I put together or what will I take apart, it all just depends on the job. The career that I have chosen is a welder. A welder works with metal material, connecting pieces to make a project. Welders can also make repairs on metal and take apart metal. I chose this career because my dad is a welder and he owns his own business which I hope to take over one day. It also has a decent pay to support one person a year. Also, it’s a job that I think I’d be good at. Welding is a good job because it uses a lot of creativity, thinking, and movement that should be used every day.…
