Overcoming the odds, he got a job. Anders saved up to become the first of his siblings to go to college! In an interview with Anders, he stated, “My parents were both born in the United States, but moved to Germany for work, forcing me to grow up there. My dream was to go to school in the U.S.A!” An ecstatic expression then lit up on his face. Due to his home life, his dorm truly made a difference in his life. I decided to take a visit to Mitchell North to see this “nightmare” first-hand. The fumes of guys fill the air. Anders lives down a narrow, dull-yellow hallway, with the community bathroom just outside his door. Next, I met his roommate, Kevin Madere, who stated, “I was nervous. I wasn’t sure what he would be like. I didn’t know what he liked or disliked.” Despite the differences, they quickly became good friends. Anders enlightens Madere with traditions from home. I found not decorating the Christmas tree until Christmas Eve pretty interesting. In conclusion, most people do not take the initiative to interact with foreign students, but really should. Everyone has a story and background behind them just waiting to unfold. So, whether a project or even just being friendly, talk to them. A new best friend is waiting to be discovered so get out of that comfort
