Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

I vividly remember the day of the Challenger Disaster. I was five years old and in kindergarten. My teacher, Ms. Epton, brought us outside to watch the shuttle launch; something many kids have to watch on television, but those of us living on the coast got to witness firsthand. I remember seeing the fiery glow of the shuttle, the gasps by the adults, and quickly being hurried back into the classroom. Not much was said about what had happened, it was not until later that I fully understood.…

Back when I was a littlun, my daddy worked in the meat factory and mama stayed at home cleaning the house and making me my dinner. My parents wanted me to be a smarty, so they made me go to school. They also said I was a good singer, so I decided to join the boys choir. Me and my best bud Charles would go down to the river to skip rocks, but sometimes we would go play chicken on the railroad tracks. Sometimes daddy would say “Stephen, wanna come a huntin with me?” and I would tag along behind him while he hunted for pheasant. I never really listened to daddy’s rules, so he decided to send me off to some fancy boarding school. It was at this point in my life where everything started taking a turn for the worst.…

Nearing the end of the tube I can almost see the shore, It feels as if I've been riding this wave for days. This wave is my hurdle in the ocean that is life, choppy at the beginning but slowly passing by. The ocean has many waves, one for each surfer to ride, my specialty wave happened to be dyslexia. It was in the second grade that my teacher first realized I was different from the other students, because I had yet to read my first book. My parents had found this odd as well, and took me to see a neurologist, who diagnosed me as having dyslexia. I did not quite know what this meant at the time, I only knew that it was the reason I could not comprehend the topics as easily as my classmates.…

“Here I am, about to work on one of the most famous boats ever.” I stepped onto the RMS Titanic for the first time on April 2, 1912 to do a practice on the ship. I was 38 years old. I remember the boat so well. I went up to the bridge to see Captain Edward John Smith for my first task. 5 minutes later I was walking around the ship to check it out, later, more workers would get on. I saw the First-Class Cabins, the Second-Class Cabins, the 1st Class Lounge, the 2nd Class Lounge, the dining rooms, the bridge, and the deck. I went down to my cabin to get a last minute nap in before I had to go to the dinner.…

Ismay tells us more of how his emotional health has been affected by his experiences that night by describing the passage of time, pointing out the lack of meaning the seasons change has for him. It seems that stormy nights he is most affected and driven to his escape, cocaine.
