Personal Narrative: My Sacrifice
Her Sacrifice Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper. During that time, my family and I were still living in the Philippines. My mother was a housewife, while my father worked as a government employee. Having three little children where two were studying in a private school must have been difficult, considering that only one income was providing the children’s school requirements and the family daily needs. I do not recall most of the situation, all I remember was we were still recovering for our financial problem and having my situation is one of the reason that pushed …show more content…
She pawned her wedding ring in order for me to stay in the hospital and get fully treated. This event was kept from me till I was ten years old. We were at my cousin’s wedding when I noticed that she was not wearing her wedding ring. I immediately asked her where is her ring. She did not respond quickly and told me that she’ll explain it to me later. Once we got home she told me her sacrifice. It was a heart-breaking moment for me to know that she had to do it in order for me to get better. She then calmed me down by saying that I should not feel sad about it because her children are more important for her and, she just had to do what she can do. We tried to get her ring back but the pawn-shop lady said it was already late, her ring was gone and could not be

It is not uncommon for the evening news to talk about the local, state, or national budget. Controlling finances is an important issue for governments at many levels. Families also must control their finances. Some families create budgets that they stick to carefully, recording all outgoing and incoming money so that they never spend more than they bring in. Other families keep at least a mental count of where their finances stand. But what about young people—people your age?…

My mother, sister, and I were driving down Highway 124 on a hot July day when my mom screamed and slammed on the breaks. Fear rushed through our bodies. Outside the car window, a short young African American man was launched into the air. As he came down, a loud boom sounded as his body helplessly rolled off the hood of the faint green Toyota Corolla in front of us. The man lay motionless in the road while we waited for what seemed like hours for the driver to exit the car. His red shirt and gym shorts were ripped. The driver of the opposing car threw the vehicle in reverse in a spasmodic action in an attempt to end the man’s life. The injured man made an effort to crawl onto the Wendy’s sidewalk, forcing his body up on the curb to evade the car. The driver drove up onto the curb and blew its tire, just barely missing the wounded man. Realizing the driver would stop at nothing, my mother drove her white suburban in front of the car, blocking the violent perpetrator from doing any further damage.…

Time is winding down and the past thirty nine weeks has been nothing short but amazing. It has been full of different emotions and feelings. From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. What is this? Is this how it's assume to feel or even resemble? It's kind of insane how you, only one individual,…

With ever story of victory, comes a drowning idea of failure. Throughout our live, these battles are fought, taking not only mental strength, but physical as well. Some of these battles are chosen, while the rest flank from behind. With this in mind, a story of victory must be told, on behalf of my Aunt, Joenell. Her battle took place in April, of 2009, she went to the Suttee Delta hospital, in Antioch California for a doctor’s visit, for fear that something was wrong, during this visit she informed her doctor that she felt a not on her left breast. Soon after, she had a mammogram, and an ultrasound done, revealing three cancerous lumps. As the doctor went into detail, she started to realize the gravity of the situation. For the first time; at the age of 59, she was confronted with the most life threating event she had ever faced. So for a second opinion, she went to the Epic Cancer center, also in Antioch California. Certainly, the last thing anyone would like to hear during a doctor’s visit, she knew there would be some decisions to be made, time to study up.…

The night grew dark, cold, and lonesome. I took a hot shower and prayed for my health. Midafternoon the next day, I heard a bold knock on my door. “Come in,” I uttered exuberantly. A tall, husky man wearing a white lab coat entered my room, followed by a gust of cold air. My eyes instantly spotted “Surgeon” on his name tag. I uneasily anticipated the doctors’ decision that I was going to need to have surgery.…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…
