In the book Broken China the author Lori Aurelia Williams brings the reader a novel dealing with a young mother's struggles and much more. China Cup Cameron is 14 balancing going to school full time just barely hanging on and trying to raise her 2 year old daughter almost single handedly, until death is brought upon the family. China is forced to find a job that will require her to make lots of money to make ends meet. Unfortunately, her only option is to work at Obsidian Queens, a local gentlemen’s club. This brings up one reason why I believe that this book will not be read one hundred years from now. It presents a negative way have young teenage girls to work for money. In chapter three of the book the customers at…
Buddhism, originally from India, was widely accepted at first because of it power to diminish the caste system. Buddhism gained most of its popularity during 220 CE and 570 CE after the downfall of the Han Dynasty. Once power was regained though it can easily be understood why people in the upper class began to disapprove of the new religion. While the Chinese initially accepted Buddhism into their culture during a down fall of the dynastic rule, once power was regained many began to point out the lack of Buddhism in historical text and supposed negative effect it was having on the Chinese people. An additional document from the perspective of an underclass citizen who converted to Buddhism would be more helpful in understanding the overall appeal that people had to Buddhism.…

Although the fall of The Han and subsequent need for consolation beyond Confucianism led to the spread of Buddhism, it was met with mixed reactions. Being a religion of salvation it was popular with the ordinary citizens, but governments or groups seeking order opposed its unorganized guidelines. Therefore, Buddhism spread greatly during the period of the warring states, when there was no order and there was a need for salvation among the Chinese people.…

The introduction to a process essay may tell the reader about a problem. The thesis statement, which is usually the last sentence of the introduction, tells the reader how to solve the problem. In the example introduction, the writer presents a child with a behavioral problem; then the writer presents a solution to the child’s behavioral problem. The writer uses a psychologist name Dr. Mo to present the solution to Reza’s son’s problem. Do you think Dr. Mo, Reza, and little Ali are real people?…
The spread of Buddhism in China seemed to be positively looked upon, for the most part, by the people of China. The spreading of Buddhism was not a short event. In fact, Buddhist influence was brought to China by the first century C.E and continued to expand for several centuries. The Chinese had different reactions to this, some positive, some negative.…
In China there was a large amount of change that the country endured both politically and culturally between the years 100 C.E. and 600 C.E.…
China’s history is arguably the richest and longest of all countries, fortunately for the scholars, this whole stretch of history was charted into different periods called dynasties. If China’s history was like a storybook and the dynasties were the chapters, then the “Mandate of Heaven” is definitely the essential concept to link the chapters together. However, the “Mandate of Heaven” model, like most philosophical concepts, actually provides a utopian representation of China’s historical reality due to its over-simplicity.…
Everyone knows that we need a good leader that knows how to rule. Some people think that we should go back to the old rules and be strict. Well back in China they had 500 years of war which caused them to throw the whole country in disorder. Along with war, Mandate of Heaven and Feudalism. Now the Mandate of Heaven was a power that controlled human destiny.…
The rate at which our world is deteriorating is quite frightening. Therefore, the notion of the human race having to settle a new world is not all that crazy. If I was to be one of the first pioneers of the newest frontier, I would have a difficult time deciding who I would choose to settle with me. For instance, to satisfy my own happiness, I would hastily assemble a group based upon my own emotions. But, to better the world and ensure future generations' self-sufficiency, I would ultimately choose to convene a sophisticated, qualified unit composed of a peaceful leader, a gifted doctor, and a brilliant environmentalist.…
In china religion is the subject of persecution. Just last year a man by the name of Cai Zhuohua was convicted of conducting " illegal Business Practices" (Pan 1) for simply printing copies of the bible and giving them away for no profit and was sentenced two to three years in prison. But the Chinese government did not see it that way; the government viewed it as "Infiltration" (Pan 2). The Chinese government claimed the reason he was prosecuted was because only the "official state controlled church is authorized publisher of bibles and other religious works" (Pan 2). Cai's wife and brother in law were also convicted, but their sentencing was much lighter, two year and eighteen months sentences. Even though the State Bureau of Religious Affairs knows about this case they still state "' there is no so-called persecution of religious people' in china" (Pan…
The Chinese were tolerant to other religions but also had the ability to control their influence. The most widely practiced belief in China was Confucianism, an ideology that shaped the social structure throughout China and guided the feudalistic society. Although the Chinese government allowed the practices of other beliefs, they required immense knowledge and strong understanding of Confucianism with the Civil Service Exam, an exam that determined your future. By requiring this exam, the Chinese government was restricting the people’s freedom to fully preach and practice another religion. Any other religions that were practiced in China including Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and more were not at all a threat to the Chinese because they had such a stable and longstanding government.…

My collage is Freedom of Religion, why I chose this freedom is because everyone has a religion, even though some people don’t choose to have a religion, it is important to them. ¨With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.¨ by Steven Weinberg. I chose this quote because anyone can have a religion it does not matter what kind of race they are, gender, or how they look. They choose what to believe in not what others believe in. Not everyone will believe in God, others may believe in something else and they cannot change that.…
