Hi Petrea,

It looks like a great organisation and one that is really making a difference in the community. Congratulation on all your hard work, its payed off...wonderful to see people devoting so much effort and work into the community to help suffering/ troubled people. I love helping troubled people myself, but I have never been on retreats. I have had therapy at one stage in my life. long time ago now but it was helpful at the time. Once again thanks for connection and loverly to read some of your story and see good work in our

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

My emotional wellness has come so far for my goals. I have learned to accept myself for my body and my mind. On Halloween, I wore my Wonder Woman costume without a second thought. Every day I dress up for myself and no longer care about the opinion of others when I look in my closet. My value always counted on my grades and test scores since elementary school. These days I still value my grades, but do not value my personal worth solely on them.…

Not only were the sessions therapeutic for the patients but I also felt as though they were therapeutic for me as well. Sitting and listening to these Veterans talk about their experiences and venting their frustrations was enlightening for me, but the best part was when it was time for them to leave. The walked into the office with very serious expressions on their faces but when it was time to leave they were smiling and almost seemed as if a weight had been lifted from their shoulders. If the Veteran’s primary care physician had not referred them directly to Kathy for screening after their visit, these people might not get help they clearly needed. Getting someone connected to help immediately prevents him or her from going home and second-guessing the idea of reaching out for help. This greatly increases the chances that someone will get the help that they need and deserve. I left Kathy’s office that day feeling a sense of accomplishment and reward for being able to help someone just by sitting there and listening to them. It is amazing how much we can help someone without even laying a hand on…

The Degree in which I changed my life We all know that change is scary, and for some of us, almost impossible. The fear of the unknown is at times all together overwhelming. However, change happens everyday, even if we don't recognize it, change is happening around us, all the time. I chose to welcome change into my life, I had to, or I was going to lose the most important people in my life, my children. Approximately two years ago, my world came crashing down on me like a wall of bricks. In one day I had lost my fiance', my children, my job, my home and my car. My ex-husband had made false alligations and by the time it was all said and done, all I had left was the family dog. That dog became my best friend that day! It would have been easy for me to fall into a deep depression and give up, but it just wasn't in me to do that!…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. The only event I remember was when I was about one. While I was one, I grabbed everything in my reach, even a grill handle. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. Ever since that event, I now have a starfish mark on the side of my right thumb from where the stiches were.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
