Going into first grade I was not at the same reading levels everyone else was at. I could not read at all, it did not really bother me until the class got assigned reading levels. I was put into the lowest level while most of my friends got put into different groups and were allowed to read different books then me. Not long after I was put into the lowest level, a lady came to my classroom and took me to another room to test …show more content…
my reading. I remember being very nervous because she asked me to read a sentence and I could not read it. I was not sure what was going to happen but I knew that I hated having to go to another class that not one else had to go to. The next day the lady, Mrs. Olsen, can back to my classroom and explained to me that every day she would come and get me and I would come to her classroom for an hour and do reading with her while my class did their reading. At first I did not like it; I was being away from my friends and had to do challenging work for an hour. Mrs. Olsen would make me sound out different letter put together and practice saying little words but she made the lessons fun. I quickly began to enjoy coming to her classroom, working with her, and enjoyed reading more.
Time passed and in second grade I still would leave the classroom during class to go with Mrs.
Olsen. My reading level slowly got better and better. By third grade I was still pulled out of the classroom but instead of just being Mrs. Olsen and me, there were also other kids that struggled with reading too. In the beginning of fourth grade, I was tested to see if I would go back into reading recovery again. I passed the test with reading levels above my grade so I graduated from reading recovery. Mrs. Olsen changed my life because now I love to read and before reading used to make me hate having to go to school. I never thought anyone would be able to make that big of an impact on my life but she did. That made me want to become a teacher and make a difference in someone life like she made in mine. A problem today is that there are tons of students that don’t have the extra help or teachers that are willing to do everything in their power to make that difference for the student. I would like to help solve this problem by becoming a teacher and give my students everything I can to help them and hopefully make a different like Mrs. Olsen made. Not being able to read ended up teaching me to never give up, things take time, and the best way to have a problem solved is to find someone that is willing to help make a difference and stick with it. I found a problem in my life and now I am ready to make a difference and solve that
problem.
