My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…
I am writing this quick letter to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my accomplishments and aspirations as a writer. I won't say that writing is in my blood or my genes or anything like that, but I will say that I do have an insatiable urge to write. I cannot say, but I definitely feel that writing is a passion of mine that I greatly enjoy. It is an urge that can only be satisfied and, even then, only temporarily, by stringing words together into a narrative. Ultimately, I greatly enjoy writing, although I do not consider myself to be stellar at it; I would call it a passion more than anything else.…
My whole life I have been a leader, the rule maker, the boss, a take charge and a "get stuff done" type of person. These qualities I attribute to being the oldest sibling, raised by a strong mother, and a stepfather determined to raise another man’s child as best he could. I thrive in situations where I can have control and can help guide a team or myself to the best possible outcome. I apply these characteristics to nearly every aspect of my life, sometimes to a fault. After dropping out of college eight years previously, to follow my dreams of being a makeup artist, I woke up one day and decided my life need a change. Not completing school had always weighed on me over the years like an unfinished task needing to be done. So, why now, what changed? My outlook on life shifted after meeting a special little boy named Jackson.…
Moving on is easy but what you leave behind is what makes it hard. Once you get to a certain age in your life you know you have to move on sometime. I know times are hard but you have to push yourself toward what you really want in life even if it means moving away from what you love.…
The Degree in which I changed my life We all know that change is scary, and for some of us, almost impossible. The fear of the unknown is at times all together overwhelming. However, change happens everyday, even if we don't recognize it, change is happening around us, all the time. I chose to welcome change into my life, I had to, or I was going to lose the most important people in my life, my children. Approximately two years ago, my world came crashing down on me like a wall of bricks. In one day I had lost my fiance', my children, my job, my home and my car. My ex-husband had made false alligations and by the time it was all said and done, all I had left was the family dog. That dog became my best friend that day! It would have been easy for me to fall into a deep depression and give up, but it just wasn't in me to do that!…
Through class lesson I have learned new things from my classmates, from newspapers and from my teachers. I have learned that we as a nation are too quick to believe when something is right or wrong without taking the accounts into consideration. With this, I have learned to question the details and being more involved to avoid blindly answering. My classmates have taught me that we can all help each other improve. I have examined students in the Wight Foundation helping one another out so we can all excel. There is always room for growth even when you think you are your…
In all seriousness, my writing is garbage, but it some what improved the slightest bit because I had a professor who actually knows how to teach a English class and not give little hints on telling us if our paper was trash. Instead, we were told straight if it was a good paper or not and it has probably helped me improve the most. In High School, I was always told that my papers were “good,” thankfully I finally had a Professor who can give it to me straight and tell us how we can improve our writing. On all the RRs, RWL, and formal essays that I have written these past twelve weeks, I have gotten educational criticism that has helped my pathetic writing become less pathetic and somewhat college worthy writing.…
I remember, when I was younger, that I wasn't fond with the idea of writing. I remember after writing out paragraphs upon paragraphs my hands always hurting and my brain exhausted from all the mental thinking and processing of writing. However, I would have this feeling; this sensation when I would write with thought, with passion and I carved it. However, it was hard to find a place that was felt the same kind of passion that I felt for writing and could help hone my writing. Then, I found out about BISFA that could help me with my writing, but my English teacher, who was supportive in my decision, told me a question all writers should always themselves, Why do you write? I figured that I would have an answer, but it I didn't. However, it…
I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…
Something that changed me and let me be the person who I am today is friendship. Friends can raise you high above the skies. Or, they can pull you down under the ground.…
When I was younger, I typically received the things I wanted, things such as toys – being that I was an only child – and never worried about hearing the answer, “No”. I had this insane idea that the world revolved around me. Although I still had the concept in my head, that it was all about me when I was informed I would be an older sister, I knew that nothing would be the same. Before I was a sister, I never took anyone else into consideration, and I was never told to do otherwise. I was around four years old, when this news has changed my life forever.…
My writing throughout high school was much different than my writing today. My writing today has improved tremendously. At the beginning of this semester, my writing was very standard and simple. I used to write a paragraph as the traditional three to five sentences. My sentence structures…
To begin with, my punctuation has gotten a lot better. I made a lot of errors during the beginning of the year and I am starting to make a lot less. Also, my thesis statements have gotten tremendously better. At the beginning of the year they were really boring. As the year began to progress, the statements got more interesting and creative. My analysis throughout essays have gotten better. I am much better now at determining things like theme, tone, and finding many literary devices. I can also set up my essays better and create smoother transitions. When I find the theme now, I can point it out much easier after learning about it this year and having a better understanding of what it is. When it comes to tone, I understand it so much better now. When we began learning about it I didn’t understand but after we received a chart about different types of tones it helped me so much. When I started English this year, I knew some of the basic literary devices like simile, metaphor, and personification; but with the knowledge I have gained this year, I can use and find things like hyperbole, onomonopea, assonance, and so on.…
Now it’s close to the end of the semester and my writing skills have improved. My English papers have continued to progress in…
Everyday people learn how to be a better English writer and it is successful because mostly everyone in the United States speaks English. In my experience, I’m learning how to become a better English writer everyday by reading books and writing essays. I’ve taken English 60A, English 60B, and now I’m taking English 50. Writing essays and reading article’s in English 50 helps me to become a stronger writer. In my portfolio I am going to edit my best essay that I did in class and I am also going to revise my biggest challenged essay. Although I use speak and write in English everyday in the world, I am still learning how to become a better writer. My experience as a writer in English has grown since the first day in English by learning to use sources in an essay, how to cite properly, to write 650-1000 word essays, and to critique my classmates work.…
