Personal Narrative-Howling Woods
Howling Woods “Hey, Irene, try saying this: Peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” Grady, my brother, said.
“Peter Piper picked a pick of pi-”
“HAHA, YOU MESSED UP!” Grady screamed. He was only 4, so I had to forgive him often. We were on the LONG car ride to our traditional camping spot, and we decided to do tongue twisters on our way. I wasn’t liking the idea so much now.
After 2 hours of Grady screaming judgements and dad sighing as he couldn’t do anything about it, we arrived at the site. After we got into the old place, we talked to a member of the camp staff. The man at the desk was wearing a cowboy hat, and we couldn’t see his eyes. Everything was going just fine… Until he suddenly looked at his computer and blurted,
“Oh, um… Someone with lot 54 decided to rent your lot for $3,000… So we have to move you to

I was so careless, and I had no worries.
Suddenly, a dark figure appeared through the trees about 100 feet in front of me. It stood there for a minute, and I said,
“Um… Hi! What’s-”
As soon as I had started talking, whatever it was had darted. I ran after it, wanting to make a new friend as an eight year old. It was way too fast for me, and I ran out of breath.
I wanted to tell my dad about the strange… thing..., but when I looked back from where I was running, there were only trees. I thought to myself,
“I only ran a little! Did the trees move?”
It began to rain. I bawled and screamed. The dark figure was suddenly back, and it was standing right in front of me!
I screamed,” SOMEBODY HELP ME!”
The trees began whispering and softly howling. I could feel it all around me. It was a vibration in the air… That was undeniably frightening. The dark figure said in a whisper,
“Come, child.”
The voice still sends goosebumps down my neck to this day. It sounded like how talking while inhaling would sound.
I was unsure, but my only choice was to follow it. After all, how much more lost could I

As a child, I was raised my whole life in the country side. My mother and I had lived for years in a lonely shack at the edge of the small village we called home. At the very edge of the village was an eerie forest, a forest that seemed to beckon unwary fools into entering it. I was always told as a child to never go near the forest, especially at night. Some people say that a bear lives there, while others say that a serial killer lives there, and some even say that a monster lives there, either way the forest is always portrayed with death. I remember various occasions in which I would wake up for reasons unknown, only to find myself outside in my backyard staring at the edge of the forest, the soft moonlight caressing my bare skin, the crisp night air followed by the refreshing scent of grass. On one occasion I thought I heard a…

It's cold, very very cold. It's snowing, not too hard, but hard enough to notice I can feel the rifle in my hand. Under my feet, I can feel the snow beneath my boots. Sitting on the hay bale, I breath, and I can taste the crisp air. I can see the sun coming up over the trees. My dad is off in the distance somewhere. Then i hear it! It is the bang of a high powered rifle. I get off my hay bale, throw my pack on my back, and start jogging for where he said he'd be. My dad was just sitting there. He had the biggest grin I've had ever seen before. When we looked out over the grass. I saw it! It was a huge white tale deer probably a 6x6. We waited a few more minutes. Then we went over there. I really saw it; a big buck with an even bigger…

It was a typical day in Ghana when my mother asked me to go and milk the cow at our farm that was just before the woods. I had always been an exploratory person and this time I wanted to go and discover the woods. I had always been told to stay away from the woods by family and friends for a very long time, and could not wait any longer. I walked into the woods as quietly as I could trying very hard to avoid to stepping on the crispy leaves, as I make a prickly noise. Suddenly,…

I awoke to the slamming of the front door, remembering that it was Sunday, my dad's favorite day of the year, the first day of hunting season. I jump out of bed and stumble down the stairs waking everybody else in the house up. Looking out the window I see my dad pull away in his big red pickup truck with the sleeve of his orange hunting jacket hanging out the window. Hoping he brings home dinner, I start to make myself breakfast, I make my dad's favorite; eggs with crispy bacon. As I'm cooking breakfast I think to myself, I wished I had gotten up earlier to say bye to him, or even go out with him. It was a beautiful day to go out hunting and I had never missed the first day of the season before. It was like a tradition he and I had, we would always go out and hunt together. My dad and I had a relationship that not many fathers and daughters had; we really enjoyed spending time together doing things outside that not many people like to do. Losing my train of thought, I look down at the pan of charred eggs and sigh. Nothing went like planned today, I thought.…

When I woke up, the moon had moved behind a cloud and it was very dark and cold. The wind was blowing and an owl hooted in a tree above me. I rubbed my eyes and started to get up, when suddenly I heard a splash. I looked down at the water and saw something. Something terrible and frightening, and unlike anything I’d ever seen before. Something was coming out of the water and moving towards me. Something green and strange and ugly. It was a long green arm and it was stretching out from the water to grab my leg. I was so scared that I couldn’t move. I’d never been so scared in my whole life. The cold green hand was moving closer and closer when suddenly there was a blue flash and a strange noise from behind me. Someone jumped onto the stairs next to me. He was wearing strange clothes and he had a crazy look in his eyes. He shouted “Get Back!” and pointed something at the monster in the water. There was a bright flash and the monster hissed and disappeared.…
