There was all this trash that piled up higher than he was. When my plants began to grow it was one of the best things that happened. I felt so much like I was at home. The plants are so perfect it made the grass look bad. The fence had to be put up so people couldn't get in because some people tried to eat other people's plants and some guy came and ripped out the plants. I had some many pumpkins and watermelon grew like weeds. I sold them half of all them. I was one of the founders of this garden as well. So a week from today is halloween so I picked up all the pumpkin I want to carve. Gardening is so relaxing to do. I love to garden It makes me feel so relaxing. My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

If I were to be accepted into Thomas Dale’s prodigious Program of the Performing Arts, I would be delighted, not only because I would be able to express my passion for the violin but I could also mingle with the numerous amount of others who possess similar interests as mine. It is also one of my objectives to become a professional musician further along in my career path, Thomas Dale would be one step closer to achieving such an arduous path for a profession. Another reason that seems minor, but is actually significant for my choice of striving for the Arts, is making my wonderful teacher and conductor proud. If I joined the specialty center I would be an asset to the school program because I display a strong fervor for the beautiful music…

Evelyn Late this afternoon a young boy named Vigil came to our pigsty apartment to play with my confident little brother, Thomas. He was talking on and on about this garden that was in the dirty lot a block away. I wasn’t paying much attention but I have never seen a vegetable garden let alone grown anything. Then he brought up the idea of taking us there to show us his father's lettuce patch.…

Tom had always loved plants. He loved the way they would begin their lives as tiny seeds buried in their cosy little nests, and then, with all the essential ingredients a sprinkle of water, a cup of sunlight and a dash of time they would blossom into sharp Italian ballet dancers, their lively radiance beating against the cream-white window pane. Toms mother would grow these plants by the dozen, and, once a month, after harvest week, she would take all the plants away, replacing them with seemingly barren pots of soil, each containing their own hidden seed ready to grow and blossom into another magnificent dancer on the windowsill.…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

Even generations ago, my family members realized how difficult it was to fit in time to see distant family members. That’s why since my great grandmother was around, we’ve spent one day during the holiday season participating in what we call The Progressive. As the tradition goes, each family is required to prepare one part of the traditional five course meal, the assignment of which rotates between the families each year. Each family prepares their part of the meal and hosts it at their home, allowing the entire family to visit everyone’s home and “progress” through one giant five course meal throughout the course of the day. It has, without a doubt, provided some of my family’s favorite stories throughout the years while allowing us to reflect on the year’s past with each other. Although it has been around since my grandparents were children, it has changed drastically since it’s inception those many years ago.…

My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…
