Personal Narrative: I Love America
I love America. Only people who come from elsewhere will understand those words. We all have different or similar reason why we move here. Coming from Ghana my main purpose after I moved here, was to find my place in the world. Past and present president of America insist that this is a place where dreams do come true with hard work and perseverance.
I had no sense of individuality, purpose or any idea what my destiny was. I knew for sure I wanted to make a difference in people's lives, but that alone, proved difficult to accomplish.
Within the Ghanaian community, 70-80% of career path they choose is Nursing. "Why don't you do nursing?" my dad and many other people will suggest. "they make money" they'll add. Yes I know they make money, but

Hind sight is 20/20 vision. If we knew then what we know now, would we have done anything differently? Sadly we’ll never know and throwing our hands up in the air and shouting “boo” and “atrocities” or “lets punish Japanese and American commanders, naval officers, and flight lieutenants” will be of no use whatsoever. Afterall, what is done is done. We can’t undo it. Now all we can do is move forward carefully, having learned from the horrors of the past.…

My whole symbol revolves around an American flag because I am American. On stripes area of the flag I put the sports that I play every year, which are basketball, football, baseball, and track. If you look inside the track symbol you will see the number 400 because I run 400’s in track. The basketball is the biggest and in the middle because it is my favorite sport to play. If you follow the sports counter clock wise around the flag you will find the order of my favorite sports. I like basketball because you get to run a lot and it could get physical. I like football because you get to tackle kids without getting in trouble. The reason I do track is to travel to towns with your friends and to get the feeling of winning. I enjoy playing baseball…

“America is another name for opportunity. Our whole history appears like a last effort of divine providence on behalf of the human race” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). Most people take pride in being an American, as America has provided greater opportunities and has fostered economic success for its’ citizens to be successful. By coming to America, people are able to take advantage of the better opportunities presented to them. The majority of people would interpret living in America as a privilege, as America has given them the chance to turn their life around.…

As a native of Northwest Ohio, it is not hard to believe that I am a Conservative. I have been instilled the beliefs that our government should be small, and our border security, strong. I am by no means a political science expert, I just believe I have some important thoughts to add to the political conversation.…

America means a lot of things to me, like freedom, safe, brave, equal, and responsibility. The reason I picked these things is because I think they are all very important to this country. The reason why I picked freedom is because in America, you have the right to do and say whatever you want. For example, the phrase freedom of speech, which means that someone’s right to say something is protected within certain limits. What that means is that someone can say whatever they want, but after you say it, there could be consequences, like someone getting hurt if you yelled “fire” in a place that has a lot of people or if you walked into an airport and yelled “bomb.” You have the right to say that, but if you do, there will be consequences like going to jail or something like that. There is also something called freedom of expression, which means people can behave like they want to and wear what they want to.…

This connection that I have with my mother is a dime a dozen if you look at our entirely culture here in America. Less and less families these days actually cook or sit down to eat a meal together which has left many Americans searching for something they have lost. This lost feeling is being capitalized on by television networks by the vast amount of cooking and food related shows that are being broadcasted. Frank Bruni asks in “An Experts Theory of Food Television Appeal”, “For these young people, does the televised cooking have have the appeal of a missive from a lost utopia” (Bruni 111)? I believe he hit the proverbial nail right on the head with this line of questioning and he couldn't be more correct. Young adults who lead busy lives,…

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

America, land of the free and home of the brave, a country strengthened with rights, equality, and justice. For Americans it’s just a regular country, with regular rules and laws, nothing special about it. Although, to immigrants it’s a country to reinterpret their lives, a better life, a life where they’re free to pursue their happiness and follow their dreams. Even though America is a great country, adjusting to a new culture isn’t easy. It took patience, support, understanding, and passion in order for me to balance two different cultures.…

One day nearly two years ago, I came back from the worst trip and experience ever in my life. Three years ago, my family made the biggest decision of our lifetime together and we had decided to move. Now the fact that we were moving didn’t bother me or my little sister, it was just the simple fact that we were moving from our home that we had grown up in our entire life. The only problem was the fact that we had eventually found out that we were going to move to Oregon. This Alabama home that we grew up in was very special to me and my sister but it wasn’t the one of best of places. We had lived right beside our grandparents and we loved to go up the hill and see them and us moving had rendered that possibility from happening any longer.…

The fake grass was deeply green like usual, the sun continued to shine like it did everyday till 7 o’clock sharp, and as everyone wore their dull white shirts, I thought to myself “why did our society end up so euphoric?” Was I the only one who thought about the world before “The great crisis” or did someone else think the same way as me? It was 5080 and “the great crisis” happened about 300 years ago way before I was born, no one ever speaked of the old America, because it was considered a crime to think of such evil. But tomorrow was every girl in the 10th grades birthday, we were all turning 15, this meant that 10 out of the 43 girls would be picked as interns to the woman elders who society called the wise women. Samuel, I really enjoyed your post as I like hearing about other people’s family history since mine is so diverse. With your skin tone, eyes, and hair I can see why someone may say you look Hispanic. At least you take it in stride. Today, too many people get offended when someone calls them the wrong race or ethnic origin. It is really good that you continue your family’s tradition of cooking Greek and Italian dishes and I hope your children continue that. My family has been in this country so long and has so many nationalities in the mix that we have Southern traditions instead of a specific country. I do enjoy researching my family’s history. I do not have anyone famous in my family so far, but my great-great grandfather, Private John Henry Gwathney, did manage to survive the Civil War while serving under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.…
