Personal Narrative: I Love To Dance: Danza Santa Cruz
I love to dance. I have been part of a lot of things that involve dancing. The one I truly have a passion for is a group called "Danza Santa Cruz.” Being in this group has taught me how to have morals and have more faith in my religion.
Danza Santa Cruz isn’t just an ordinary dance group. It's an ancient Catholic and native tradition from Mexico brought into America. Their dance steps along with the drums and costumes are unique and beautiful. Every other group has their specific saint and church they represent. The one I am in represents "La Virgin de Guadalupe" which is our saint. Our group name is named after the church we represent, which is Santa Cruz and means "Holy Cross.”
I've been part of this danza since I was very young. All my

I am always pushing and striving to be greater. There may be times where I do get a dance move right away but I go home and practice until I feel I have mastered that move. I enjoy the fitness that we do before practice because I want a stronger body so that I can be a better dancer. I have a very independent personality and it is only because I want to be the best Christian, dancer, and overall person that I can be. One of our dance tattoos is “NO COMPROMISE”. I do not ever want to compromise myself or my beliefs to fit it. A leader never “fits in”. I always try my best to follow instructions because I know that this dance team is not only for me, it is for the world. We have to show the world the light. In this band you have to become selfless and know that when you are performing it is so that we can reach the world and save…

Mariachi is a traditional style of music in Mexico. It is seen at local and cultural festivals, theatres, and even fiestas (parties). Most Mariachi songs are about love and romance, even lost love. Until the 1930’s Mariachi was unknown to folks outside of the region. It was the music of county people, so Mariachi groups were local or semi-professional.…

When I was in junior high, I joined the dance team. You can say that dancing is definitely one of my talents. I love dancing, but I have never really thought of making it into a career. While I was in dance, I learned responsibility and dependability. I managed my schedule, so that I would not be late to practices or events. I was always on time and prepared.…

I liked tap because you could make specific sounds and change the sounds and how the sounds could interact with the music if done right. I liked ballet because it seemed to be the basis of my childhood and it is the basis of dance. A year later my flexibility was falling short so I began to do an acro class, and because of how my schedule ended up I added a hip hop class because why not? Hip hop I liked just because it was something new. I liked finding things that were based on ballet and changed to the instructor's personality. I enjoyed acro because I was able to learn and perfect new tricks, and I could still work with other people because we did a routine. Unfortunately, that was the last year of doing a dance because people never showed up. I also was in a prepointe class, which was fun, but it was really more of just an extra ballet class, which made me happy anyways. The year after, I did not have a prepointe class, but I did have an extra harder tap class, which also made me…

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamt about being on the Indianettes dance team. Dancing has been a part of my life from the age of four up until now. When I was younger I was not the best dancer but I loved it, and my mom already paid for my classes so i was kind of stuck doing it anyways. My eighth grade year I was preparing to tryout for the Indianettes, I was stretching, working on my technique, and working on my jumps and turns. It turns out that the old coach Sheri Bradley quit and the Indianettes had a new fairly inexperienced coach named MariAnn Barfus. I wasn't very confident about making the team. Long story short, I ended up making it along with Jaidyn Harris, Hannah Hyde, Daphnie Colpron, Carson Davis, Becca Osterhout, Mechelle…

Hola Diana, hope you are enjoying your week, and a happy easter to you too. Yes I saw those videos of the ice bridge collapsing , it must have been amazing to be there hearing all the noises of the ice craking and the thunderous sound of it falling into the lake, you wouldn't want to be in a fishing boat there when that crashed. Not looking forward to this saturday without the 60's show, and it will be sad to loose the people that can't make the sunday slot. I'll post this bit before it crashes again.…

I really enjoyed reading your essay and I could identify myself in many points there. I was also a very shy girl and I used to love dance! I didn't go so far as you in my dance classes, but it is very interesting the way you describe how you were able to communicate through the dance everything you couldn't through the words. you really touched me with your essay as I could picture myself as that little girl. I just think you could make you argument a little more clear for readers that don't have the same degree of identification as me and you could include also a little more censorial description to get the readers more involved about the importance of dancing in your life and what kind of sensations dancing used to bring to you. Overall,…

Ever since I was young I remember dance always being one of those things that was always there when I needed it. Everyday I looked forward to going to class and working hard, doing my best to get better everyday. I officially started dancing when I was three, however, it wasn’t until I got to the age of around 10 or 11. This was about a year after I moved to Kansas City and when I just started going to the Kansas City Ballet. The whole experience changed my point of view completely over not just dance but ballet to. I would definitely not be where I am today if it wasn’t for moving to KCB.…

My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…

Because I was always one of those kids that never felt comfortable doing any sport, when I discovered that I had a talent for dancing, I was overjoyed. I started dancing during my fifth grade year of school. Immediately I became infatuated with the art. Working very hard my sixth grade year enabled me to join my academy’s dance company. One day during my musical theatre class while doing a combo something wasn’t right. My right leg had a twinging pain and when I did the big kick at the end of the combo, I knew I had pushed myself too far. What should have been the beginning of a long dance career turned into a very long year and a half search of trying to find a way to heal whatever was wrong. It was an experience that I’ll never forget.…
