If I had to categorize my feelings during orientation, it would be exhausted, uncomfortable, isolated and interested. Thursday was action packed with events; from 6 am to 11pm I was on the move. After the rain soaked scavenger hunt, I was stripped of all the energy & enthusiasm I possessed at the beginning of the day. As a result I fell asleep once my head touched my soft pillow and my body laid on that stone hard “mattress” . In unfamiliar settings and situations I immediately become uncomfortable. Between not being in Philadelphia and not knowing anyone in the group, the uneasy and awkward feelings started to set in throughout the the day. This uncomfortable feeling would later lead to isolation. Everyone was so approachable,

Six carts, all filled with prisoners to be executed, rumble along the streets of Paris. The death carts are to be dispatched to La Guillotine. The streets are bundled and clustered with people to see the final Evremonde be put to death. The crowd is brimming with adults, children, elders, but no Madame Defarge. A perfect victorian woman stands lost in the crowd with her beloved father, covered in dismay, too shook to commiserate her. Lucie finds it quite shocking that Madame Defarge is not at the scene, for she provoked her husband’s execution. There she stands with her clear, watery eyes, full of anguish, not ready for what she is about to witness.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

Thinking of creative ways on how to develop my paper is a strong suit I benefit while taking on a writing assignment. When given a topic to write about, I write down what comes into my head. I do not worry about the word count if the sentences make sense on paper or even punctuation. I write to avoid forget any important points I might have thought of. This method of writing is where my weaknesses show. Sometimes what I wrote makes sense in my head, but not on paper. Other challenges I face with writing assignments are time management and punctuation.…

The advice that was given to me about writing my personal statement is that whatever I wrote, it must be a statement that came directly from the heart. I’ve found that in order to do this, I must actually write about my heart. When I was born, doctors discovered that I had a ventricular septal defect. The defect needed to be repaired, or I would have been wheelchair-bound and not lived past my fifth birthday. The experience of my heart surgery was not only life-altering for me, but for my parents as well. I was their first-born child, and they had just purchased their first home. It is hard enough to learn the ropes of becoming a parent - but to be the parents to a very ill child was something they had never prepared for. They always…

My writing process has evolved since the beginning of the year. Looking back at my previous essays and writing assignments over the course of the semester, I can distinctively see a gradual improvement through the different pieces of writing. Even though the differences from my early works at the beginning of the semester might not be drastic, the small improvements are what positively impacted my writing style. From the beginning of class until now, I have discovered new strengths and weaknesses, redefined my writing process, and corrected mistakes from the essays along the way.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

In March 2011, I took a few days of classes and received my hunting education certification. Looking back, the actual class time is just a blur of what not to do, but I was reminded of them when I took drivers education last December, with the what not to do teachings. I also remember being very nervous about the test, but having a great feeling when I learned I passed. That October, I remember being immensely excited to go on my first hunt. The night before my dad and I left, I had a parent teacher conference and I remember getting some strange looks in the parking lot because we had a trailer loaded with tents, four wheelers, chairs, and a bunch of other stuff…

My writing recording sheet shows the many fluctuations of my writing grade. My year starts off with an okay start, and then towards the middle, my grades started to plummet. I would attribute that to my lack of focus in proofreading and properly checking my work. Over my last few assignments, I have been marked off for things that I could have easily attained point. During the start of the year, recording my mistakes down did really benefit me in my future assignments, but there would always be times where a mistake would slip through my proofreading. At most times, it would be my header where I might have forgotten my title, had too much spacing, or etc. Towards the end of the year, I kind-of fell off from recording in great detail as I started…
