I was at school and there were open soccer tryouts. From all my friends I was the only one who played basketball. All of my close friends had been playing soccer for years so I knew I was at a disadvantage. At first I was doing okay because I wasn't tired yet. But over time I got tired and played horrible. Soccer players have crazy stamina that I wasn’t used to or didn’t think I could surpass. I was able to convince myself in my mind that I could do this and get through it. I fought through the tryout and still made the team because I convinced myself that I wasn’t too tired.
The next lesson I learned is that anything is possible. I applied this idea by seeing all the other successful athletes and famous people from Canada. A couple years ago I saw a basketball player on YouTube, and the caption said “#1 in the Nation.” When I first saw this I thought it was another kid from the United States but I learned he was from Canada and had been ranked in the U.S. for one the top High School recruits.
