For many High School graduates, applying to college is a daunting adventure where new opportunities, relationships, and knowledge are ready to be explored. As a new freshman, I was not ready to succumb to the possibility of becoming a poltroon in this new and exciting world. I was ready to thrust myself into college with the adherence and prowess that most students lacked when they finished high school.…
My goal in life after college is to procure a well paying job in the field of my passion; visual design. As an artist in the visual design world, my intention is to be able to work closely with architects; not only making their own business more efficient, but also collaborating with them to find more economical solutions to the common problems that plague the architectural world, such as: energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Outside of my professional interests, I pride myself on being a compassionate young man; therefore, by finding a career in my field of choice, I hope to be able to innovate ways to provide a stable house and home for those who cannot provide it for themselves.…
Sorry for not getting in touch with you, I haven't had time to check in with you because I am taking summer classes in San Francisco and doing part-time help desk position at the same time. I did great on my first year of college and looking forward to the upper division classes in the upcoming sophomore year. I think the first year of college went well for me because of my wonderful experience at…
In the article “Learning: Your First Job,” Robert Leamson provides several suggestions especially for college freshmen about how to be a successful student. First of all, one of the tips he gives is that making the best notes as you can. Although it is a matter of course, it is actually difficult to listen to the instructor and make sense while taking notes. Moreover, many teachers mention important things verbally without writing down in the board; thus, it will be helpful to develop skills to distinguish what you have heard is important or not. In addition to that, these skills can be applied in all classes, and the notes, which are made in my own way, are far easier to understand for me than any other textbooks.…
When I was only 5 years old I began to play the sport of football. In my first few years of playing the sport, my father was my head coach. Before I started to play, I was always on the sideline watching my dad coach and being the team manager. My two sisters were cheerleaders for the same team I played on and my mother was the head coach for the cheer team. My very first time stepping on the field, I had goosebumps on the arms and chills going down my spine. I remember feeling like I was about to throw up but…
As the case with many of my peers at South Division, I am also an immigrant who originated from Thailand. The purpose of all immigrants and why they decide to immigrate is the same, which is to find a more successful life. The fact that I am an immigrant has become a motivation factor for me to achieve and strive toward success. My goal after high school is to attend college and possibly become an engineer. This goal is especially important to me because it is what I feel most passionate about. To make sure I reach this goal after high school, I will…
Three goals I have for the year are getting good grades, improving in tennis, and getting my license. In school, I want to make honors. To achieve this, I should work hard to make up any missing work and try to get decent grades on things. I want to work hard to achieve this and do any necessary work that is needed for me to do. I want to see my grades go up since the beginning of this year. By checking my grades daily, I can see how much I have progressed in school work. In tennis, I want to make varsity before I graduate. To achieve this goal, I must practice hard, exercise accordingly, and play well in matches. Tennis requires a lot of practice to become great. I want to see improvement in my game play strategies. My wins for each match…
Am I ready for college? I guess that was never a question I really thought about. I knew that all throughout high school I was going to go into college. But the question is, am I ready for it? Has high school prepared me for college? Had every paper I have written been building block to success for college writing? Though school I have written papers based off of research, and personal opinions. I have been an A student for as long as I can remember. I have gotten A's and B's on almost all papers I have handed in. As a kid I was very passionate about writing; me and my brothers would sit and collaborate on story's that we have made up and wrote on paper. We enjoyed to sit and pick at one another's story's till they were perfect. But that love soon turned into disgust. I was only writing because I was forced to. So many essays I handed in were sloppy, and unorganized. I learned that writing was beginning to be something that I did for a…
Mr. Roger's is a dedicated and resourceful teacher. He brought into the classroom a learning experience that tied real-world experience with real life people. The amount of insight and professional knowledge shared by Mr. Roger's to his students speaks to the magnitude of the amount of pride he has in his teachings. Throughout my 5 year college education Mr. Rogers has been the most informative, and knowledgeable professors I have had. I have not only learned academically, but also am able to apply real-world situations to the learning I have received.…
However, not everything was always peaches and cream. The good does come with the bad. Although I immensely relished learning psychology, I can say without a doubt what I least liked about my learning experience was all the stress that I felt. College is supposed to be no cakewalk, I know, but the stress certainly took me by surprise. I didn’t expect to have so much due in such a small period of time. For example, I recall near the end of the 3rd semester at community college I had three major papers due all within a few days of each other. Although I had completed most of the work for each paper, it still didn’t feel like I would complete them in time. It just didn’t feel like there were enough hours in the day to do everything that needed…
The world that I come from is the aspiration to overcome obstacles that stand in my way of my goals. Being in school is something that motivates me to challenge myself and promotes a positive impact on me to become more determined and be self-disciplined. I like to challenge myself by taking AP and Honors classes to help me to prepare myself for college and to have a better expectation of what college will be like. My overall goal that I strive for is to graduate from High school and attend to a prestigious college or university like Stanford or UC San Diego. My ambition after graduating from college or university is to have a major to become something in the Medical Field like an RN, LVN or a Doctor.…
Two weeks before finals, in my first semester of college, I detached my retina and underwent emergency eye surgery. The surgery restored my vision, but I was restricted from strenuous activity and reading. I was frustrated with my limitations, but also terrified that I could permanently harm my vision. My doctor believed that since I was younger than his typical patient, I would make a swift recovery. Also, he understood how important my classes were to me, so we decided on an arrangement where I would regain a full field of vision, and be able to prepare for finals. The plan included slowly adding school work over weeks leading up to finals, and prepare for finals in ways that did not involve reading. My professors and I worked out agreements…
I am in college to improve my education. College was never an option for me or even a thought. Out of high school, I wanted to join the military, which I ended up doing 2 years later. It was not until at that time I realized how crucial my education was. Majority of the individuals around me had degrees with vast amounts of knowledge. That’s when I took pride in myself and wanted to further my own education. I started by taking correspondence courses thought out my time in the service. This would ultimately inspire me to wrap up my AA after my accident in Afghanistan. After my mishap, I had an extensive deal of time to recollect while lying in the hospital recovering. I was able to reflect on my former life and scrutinize where I could improve…

Skim the textbook first, even though the assignment is on a set page, skim trough the chapter, look at titles, sub titles, heading, pictures, first and last paragraphs to get a general idea of the topic and as a result put you in a better place to answer the question. Take notes on what you are studying. The idea is to summarize the main idea so it's much easier to make reference to weather studying for a test or doing an assignment. Review after you've read and take notes.…
