Personal Narrative: My Goals After College

The world that I come from is the aspiration to overcome obstacles that stand in my way of my goals. Being in school is something that motivates me to challenge myself and promotes a positive impact on me to become more determined and be self-disciplined. I like to challenge myself by taking AP and Honors classes to help me to prepare myself for college and to have a better expectation of what college will be like. My overall goal that I strive for is to graduate from High school and attend to a prestigious college or university like Stanford or UC San Diego. My ambition after graduating from college or university is to have a major to become something in the Medical Field like an RN, LVN or a Doctor. One of the things that have helped me to reach my goals to attend to college was joining Avid, because it has helped me to become a more responsible, reliant and independent student. Taking this class in the beginning was overwhelming and stressful, but throughout the past four years has helped me to learn how to balance my time and become more organized. Avid has helped me to better prepare myself for college by writing college
essays, researching colleges that I would like to attend, taking notes, applying to scholarships, writing my resume and later apply to colleges and financial aid. Although this class has been the most strenuous and meticulous throughout all of High school years, because of the requirements to meet deadlines for many assignments and applications, but the end result will be benefit me in the long run to help me attain me closer to my goals. Since my goal is to become something in the Medical Field over the past four years I have been taking classes to help me gain better experience and help prepare for what I want to achieve. I have taken Anatomy, because I have always had an interest in science and it is basic understanding of how the body functions and it is a requirement for the major that I want to get. Another class that I have enjoyed taking is Medical Terminology Front and Back office, because it has helped me to have a better expectation of what real world working experience is like. These classes helped me to gain a better understanding of what I aspire to become and also provides more hands on experience instead of memorizing facts; you get to work with the equipment that is used to operate some basic tasks that are used in the Medical Field. One of the people that have inspired and influenced me to go in this direction is my older sister that has gone through the same direction that I strive to go. Overall prioritizing myself in school has helped me to gain more experience to be more determined to follow my goals and has given me a better perspective to never give up and follow my goals for college.

One of accomplishments or experiences that I am proud of is being involved in the art club during the past two years.
At first I was very doubtful of joining this club since I was average when being compared to some of the students, because most of the students participating in the club were talented and were more experienced in art and drawing. I decided to join the club since it seemed appealing to me to become involved in art and drawing. This was a good experience for me, because I was in an environment where people shared the same interest and passion for art. Becoming a part of this has helped me develop better skills for drawing and has influenced me to try something new and fun. Although I struggled in the beginning, it has helped me to find a hobby that is relaxing and fun to participate in after
school. Being part of this club has helped find a side of me that has been dormant and has helped me to learn how to better express myself. I found out later that I was comfortable and relaxed doing this, because it is something that had always interests me. Participating in this club has helped me meet new people along the way that also have the same interests as I do. This club has also made me become more involved in school projects, ethnic cultures, holidays and other occasions as well. This has led me to become more involved in school by participating in art competitions and competing against other schools. I later discovered that I had a talent for art and drawing and I was a sort of outlet that helped me to relax. My skills have begun to develop and I began to actually enjoy myself, because at first I had a difficult time to express the way that I could describe myself or a style that I would use to express myself when drawing or painting. This lead me to become more interested in competing in several competitions and I realized that not only was it fun but it would later to be a hobby that I still continue to this day. For me drawing or painting is a way that helps me escape my problems and do something that I profoundly enjoy doing in my spare time. This was one of the positive things that made an impact on me and change my perspective in how I see things. Art is something that I see myself doing as a possibility for something that I would like to do as a career like graphic design or computer graphics. For me this has been a hobby that I still continue to enjoy and helps to express myself. This is something that I am particularly interested in and has helped be to meet new people that share the same interests and passion as I do for art.
