Personal Narrative: My Attitude To College
4 years. 1,460 days. 35,040 hours. 2,102,400 minutes. That is how long it takes to get a college degree. College is has always been something that seemed like a reachable goal for me. I knew that my family could afford to put me through college, I knew I was in schools that would prepare me for college, and I knew that I was capable to get into a college, For me going to college was never an unattainable goal. My Attitude towards college was shaped primarily by two forces, my own personal experiences and knowledge of college, and my parents influence on me about college.
In eighth grade my Language Arts teacher assigned us a college planning assignment. The idea was for us to research various colleges and look at which one fit us best. Up

Both of my parents went to college and both of them also went on to get a post-graduate degree. To them a college education is a necessity to be successful in life. Neither one of them expects me to get into or go to Harvard or Yale, but they do expect me to go to a respectable college. Some teenagers often do not go to college because they must get a job to support their family. Thankfully my parents have always said that I do not need to get a job until after college. The academic and financial support my parents have provided me has cause me not to think of college as a unattainable dream, but almost as another step in my educational , similar to high school or middle school. My parent’s knowledge of the college and the admission process has taught what I need to do in order to put myself in a position to get into a respectful college. The advice and knowledge from my parents has taught me not to just worry about my grades because colleges do not like book worms. Colleges like kids who show they can manage many activities while still maintain a solid 4+ GPA. This attitude has been a positive for me because now I am in many extra-curricular activities including playing Varsity lacrosse, being on the Academic Bowl team, and playing two instruments. Without my parents I could most definitely see myself being a book worm, but thanks to them shaping the attitude that colleges look at more than just grades I have become more outgoing. My parents influence on my view n attitude of college has most definitely been a positive one, and thanks to them, so far, I have been very

When first posed the questions of how do I fit in at a college and how my extracurricular activities and experiences would benefit the college, I was not sure where to begin writing. To be perfectly honest, I think I would be a good fit on almost any campus because I believe I am adaptable to my surroundings and have a solid foundation that would make me an asset anywhere in the nation. While the previous sentence may come across to readers as egocentric or egotistic, I’m puzzled at where to begin because I also don’t think I’m outstanding anywhere compared to my fellow students academically speaking. On the other hand, it is almost a forgone conclusion in my mind that I have experienced more in my years than the majority of my peers. Also, as a result of many of these experiences, I’ve been able to get a jump start in my field of choice compared to where anyone else in the nation going into my career would likely be. Overall, I would say I have…

Whenever I hear the phrase "college isn't for everyone" my mind cringes at the thought of all the lazy people who walk amongst this earth. There are many things people deal with on an everyday basis that "aren't for everyone". Cancer isn't for everyone, losing a loved one isn't for everyone, and being put in situations, you don't ask to be put in certainly aren't for everyone. However, as human beings, we have to continue living our lives to the best of our ability. There are no excuses in the real world. There are no excuses to not have a decent education in order to make a living in our country. Some may not like the system but that's the way it works. If you have an education, more times than not you'll make enough money to get by. If you don't, you will be left with an underpaying job which usually involves hard work, and you will be the one petitioning for $15 an hour minimum wage. Education is important and sometimes a wake-up call is needed in order for people to realize this. I was one of…

The question of whether or not to go to college is a major decision in every young person's life. People have different thoughts and reactions regarding the college experience. I interviewed my english teacher Mr. Vester. Vester said the best thing about college was, "having really great teachers who knew their stuff and reading obscure books". Time management is a fragile thing in college but you have "zero room for error" (Vester). He stated that he "would totally do it again. That's why I {he} went to grad school. I {he} liked the challenge" (Vester). Overall, Mr. Vesters college experience was hard but a good educational experience. One must consider many factors when making the decision to attend college after their high school graduation and having the right information can help in that process.…

As time elapses, I find myself appreciating the conditions brought about by my past. All my life I have been engulfed within the vivid Mexican culture that was taught to me within a single parent household; one of which held an immense military presence. I was molded by these circumstances, and have been taught vital lessons that aid me in my pursuit of a better life and future. My upbringing is a daily reminder of my roots; where I come from, who I come from, why I became the person I am today, and the reason I want to pursue this significant path to commence the journey to strive for a higher education.…

Coming into college I had no idea what I wanted to major in, although that statement is somewhat misleading. I did have some idea, but it just was not completely my own idea. My entire family works (or is in school) in the field of engineering, so naturally growing up in that environment made me want to follow in their footsteps. I encountered a problem when I was not accepted into my first college choice, NC State, which made me scramble to apply to Winthrop. This lead me to start taking the types of classes I would need to transfer into the engineering school at State, classes like chemistry and calculus. My second semester is when I decided to change majors to accounting and call Winthrop my home for the next four years (at least). I finally…

It has been such a long time since we have talked. I barely know where to even begin. First things first, lets talk about my college process experience. So I finally got out of my comfort zone and applied for a program that was offered at our school. I honestly think if it weren’t for this program, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Last summer, I was in this program called College Summit and let me tell you, it was life changing. The programs objective was to guide us through our college process and eventually turn us into leaders so that when we went back to school we can help our peers. Shocking right? I’m technically a leader. Anyway, during the program I experienced a little piece of the college life at Cal Lutheran University. I dormed…

I have always been raised by a single parent, and while I have continuously received the necessities for school and life in general, luxurious items were not seen as important as the things we needed. My mom has always taught me and my brother the concept of things I want versus things I need, and I have always admired how hard my mother works to provide for me and my brother with love and support for our lives. This scholarship opportunity would greatly take some burden off of my mother. The financial support that college requires is extensive and has always been on my mind throughout my senior year. My college decision could possibly be a decision between the more frugal option and the college that makes me happy. My mom has always told me to go to the…
