Personal Narrative: College Isn T For Everyone
Whenever I hear the phrase "college isn't for everyone" my mind cringes at the thought of all the lazy people who walk amongst this earth. There are many things people deal with on an everyday basis that "aren't for everyone". Cancer isn't for everyone, losing a loved one isn't for everyone, and being put in situations, you don't ask to be put in certainly aren't for everyone. However, as human beings, we have to continue living our lives to the best of our ability. There are no excuses in the real world. There are no excuses to not have a decent education in order to make a living in our country. Some may not like the system but that's the way it works. If you have an education, more times than not you'll make enough money to get by. If you don't, you will be left with an underpaying job which usually involves hard work, and you will be the one petitioning for $15 an hour minimum wage. Education is important and sometimes a wake-up call is needed in order for people to realize this. I was one of …show more content…
My mom graduated from there and although I am not seeking the same degree she has, I thought it would be neat if I graduated from the same college she did. UCA is known as a big party school and I was in for a big awakening. It requires a great amount of discipline and motivation to pass your classes. There are certain people who can live the life of going out every weekend, cram all of their school work into a couple days, and work like a dog so they can have money to live off of. I had two of these three qualities down pat and I ended up paying for it in the end. I dreaded work but I still went because I knew I needed money in order to get from point A to point B and of course I needed money to fund all of my party shenanigans. I dreaded my eight o clock classes which I had every single day of the week, so instead of realizing how important it was to attend my classes I chose not to

When first posed the questions of how do I fit in at a college and how my extracurricular activities and experiences would benefit the college, I was not sure where to begin writing. To be perfectly honest, I think I would be a good fit on almost any campus because I believe I am adaptable to my surroundings and have a solid foundation that would make me an asset anywhere in the nation. While the previous sentence may come across to readers as egocentric or egotistic, I’m puzzled at where to begin because I also don’t think I’m outstanding anywhere compared to my fellow students academically speaking. On the other hand, it is almost a forgone conclusion in my mind that I have experienced more in my years than the majority of my peers. Also, as a result of many of these experiences, I’ve been able to get a jump start in my field of choice compared to where anyone else in the nation going into my career would likely be. Overall, I would say I have…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

I first began looking at colleges my freshman year of high school. First, I looked up schools I thought seemed interesting and had majors I thought I may want to develop and pursue a career in. My list started off with about 20 schools and by sophomore year I would need to break it down to about 10. I began to visit these schools 1 by 1 and saw the type of programs they had to offer. I began at colleges such as Wake Forest, Clemson, and University of Tennessee at Knoxville. But I could tell that these schools just weren’t for me. My mother became fed up because I did not find interest in the schools I thought I would fall in love with.…

Honestly, I know little to nothing about the cost of college, but I have seen the toll of it from my parents. With my sister already in her junior year in a state university, they’ve told me time and time again to save water and electricity to reduce the costs of the bills. When I asked about it they listed to me all the different types of expenses they’ve had to pay for my sister: housing, tuition, food, and clothing. As a high school senior about to graduate and about to go to college, my parents had to pool their savings and what other money they have so that they can brace themselves to support me as well when I continue my education. Although it will be me in campus doing all the work, the cost itself to get me there is a heavy burden…

Many people feel that everyone should further their education and go to college, but is college really for everyone? In the world, today, there is a great amount of stress and compulsion on high school graduates on whether they should continue their education by attending college. The option of whether to attend college may give the impression of being more challenging to some than others. Although I agree that college is beneficial up to a certain point, I do not agree college is for everyone. The reason as to why I do not completely agree that college is for everyone is because some high school graduates are not academically prepared, there are occupations needing people in positions for blue collar jobs, and some people simply just do not…
