For many High School graduates, applying to college is a daunting adventure where new opportunities, relationships, and knowledge are ready to be explored. As a new freshman, I was not ready to succumb to the possibility of becoming a poltroon in this new and exciting world. I was ready to thrust myself into college with the adherence and prowess that most students lacked when they finished high school.…
My goal in life after college is to procure a well paying job in the field of my passion; visual design. As an artist in the visual design world, my intention is to be able to work closely with architects; not only making their own business more efficient, but also collaborating with them to find more economical solutions to the common problems that plague the architectural world, such as: energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Outside of my professional interests, I pride myself on being a compassionate young man; therefore, by finding a career in my field of choice, I hope to be able to innovate ways to provide a stable house and home for those who cannot provide it for themselves.…
In high school, I always considered myself a good student. I payed attention in class, took notes, and genuinely took interest in my education. As a college student, I have tried to do the same thing. Of course, college is not quite the same as high school, and I have not always gotten the near-perfect results I used to expect. While I am working on my perfectionism as a separate issue, I am glad to take this opportunity to learn more about how to succeed in college. Three strategies I learned in this chapter include how to better prepare before class, how to review after class, and how to improve my note-taking strategies.…
Although college is challenging., I am going to succeed by using advice from experts, developing strategies, and taking advantages of the benefits my college offers me.…
My graduate educational experience will be different from my undergraduate because when I was undergraduate I didn’t know as much and did not have much experience. In my undergraduate I really did not know what I wanted to proceed after graduation. It is a different experience because in my undergraduate I was more in campus and had a few online classes. As for my graduate educational experience it will be online. Before apply for my master’s program, I knew what I wanted to proceed. I will be gaining more experience and knowledge from my graduate education.…
Starting college was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life, very dramatic i know but it made me feel a whole lot of emotions. feeling nervous in social situations where i was to meet new people left me feeling uneasy and tense. on top of that was the constant nagging of the time. getting up early every morning and going on a bus to dundalk would be a nightmare after getting up nearly everyday during the summer at one in the afternoon. once i got into the swing of things i was able get up at the right time, like a normal person. there were no hassle at the beginning of the…
College is the main thing on my friends minds. Where do I go? What do I want to be? How do I even get started? It’s all so stressful, it’s also very scary thinking about my future. The transition from high school to college is a big one, but it’s a transition I am excited to go through. Ever since I was little I always dreamed about going to college. My dream school was North Carolina, Chapel Hill; I was going to play soccer there. The person that influenced me the most for wanted to go there was Mia Hamm, I was going to follow in her footsteps by going to Chapel Hill and playing in the United States women's Olympic team.…
It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…
My high school graduating class consisted of 66 students, so obviously everyone knew everyone and unfortunately everyone’s business. When I was a junior, a well-known and liked senior boy had a very public breakup with his girlfriend of 3 years. They had met as freshmen and were expected to marry after finishing school. The next day he drove his car at what police estimated in excess of 100 miles per hour into a concrete railroad bridge that crossed the main road out of town. After that, the bridge became known as Burkett’s bridge and I was never able to drive through it without getting a chill and goosebumps on my arms. It’s been over 40 years since high school, and it is amazing how often I still think of Bobby and his…
My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…
Coming into my high school years i noticed that i really have to start thinking about college and what I would like to major in. Earlier I had this thought that maybe college isnt the right thing for me. I talked to my advisory teacher Ms. Elliott in 9th grade and she explained very carefully how she thought that college wasnt for her but then when she got there she got use to it . Later in my high school career, i talked to alot of adult figures to guide my life in the right direction .…
4 years. 1,460 days. 35,040 hours. 2,102,400 minutes. That is how long it takes to get a college degree. College is has always been something that seemed like a reachable goal for me. I knew that my family could afford to put me through college, I knew I was in schools that would prepare me for college, and I knew that I was capable to get into a college, For me going to college was never an unattainable goal. My Attitude towards college was shaped primarily by two forces, my own personal experiences and knowledge of college, and my parents influence on me about college.…
Kids today don’t know where they would love to go after high school. I feel it takes tactical time to find what you’re enthralled in because there’s more things going on, and my advice for people that are trying to find the right colleges is to take your time, not worrying about others opinions, and go from your heart. The amount of time spent with college kids takes up their time by studying, attending classes on time, and what they want to be in the future. Studying helps kids improve their concentration, judgment, thoughts, and with their catalyst. Attending classes is essentially important by not being late for school or your job, young adults will always want to be there on time. It is always great to find your path of what you want to be, and never give up on it, always challenge yourself to be the best than anyone…
Coming back from a year of being aboard has made me reminiscent of the joys of discovery and the thrilling feeling of adventure. One of the reasons I find myself applying to Dickinson is because I am eager for a change of scenery and the chance to explore a new place as I enter a new chapter in my life. I truly feel like I will be able to fully immerse myself in the community and acclimate the new environment.…
There are a lot of people in the world that have been successful and have met their goals and there are many who have failed. I want to be one of those people who are successful and I know that sometimes they have to overcome many obstacles along the way, but at the end they gain what they want and they meet their goals. One of my goals is to be able to have the privilege to go to college and be successful in a career of my choice. Nobody in my family has gone to college and I would like to be the first one attending a college or a university. My parents have always encouraged me to go to college and choose the career or job I like and not be like them where they don't have a choice and they have to work in whatever job even if they don't like…
