When I was only 5 years old I began to play the sport of football. In my first few years of playing the sport, my father was my head coach. Before I started to play, I was always on the sideline watching my dad coach and being the team manager. My two sisters were cheerleaders for the same team I played on and my mother was the head coach for the cheer team. My very first time stepping on the field, I had goosebumps on the arms and chills going down my spine. I remember feeling like I was about to throw up but

I still remember that day as a memory that will forever be engraved in my mind. It was October 4th, 2013 and it was just an average October day. The sun was behind the clouds, it wasn’t too warm but also wasn’t too cold either. The trees were beginning to turn orange and there was a crisp feeling in the air. At the time my team was 4-0 and in the driver’s seat for an undefeated season being halfway through. At halftime the score was 12-0 in Solvay’s favor and it was beginning to look very down for us. This was the first time in the season that a team had been up on us at all. We went into the locker room and I remember everyone was quiet and shocked at the fact that we were actually losing. I sat and thought to myself what my dad was talking about. What did he

It was a Saturday and we were playing Van Wert in a regular season basketball game and it was close. It was a Junior varsity game. We were only playing two quarters due to the lack of numbers. The game didn’t count for much but we were giving it our all. Van Wert wasn’t a favorite of ours and we were doing just about anything just to win. The game was intense. The coaches were yelling. The crowd was cheering. The gym exploded with sound coming from all directions. We were equally matched. We trailed for most of the game but we were always very close. As the game was winding down, we were trailing by just a few points. We had the ball. The ball was stolen and we were all sprinting down the court to stop it. I got a hand on the ball from behind…

Whenever I was not playing on the field, I wore a heavy winter coat. It was a regular season game, so we were usually goofing off, as most t-ball players do. But this game, everyone was trying their best to conserve body heat. Let us fast forward to “The Playoffs” (or as close as you can get in t-ball). This was one of the first years I was participating in baseball, so I really didn’t know a whole lot about the playoffs or what they were. All my parents told me was that if my team lost, we were eliminated. I really liked competition, so I was as determined as a little 7 year old could get. We played the games, we pummeled the teams. That was all we did in the playoffs. And then, as soon as I knew it, “The Championship Game” had arrived. I was as ecstatic as a child who receives an iPhone for Christmas. But with all my joy, there also came fear; much fear and nervousness. My parents had…
