Personal Narrative-Lying With The Snow
The icy cold snow brushed against the bottom of my board. My hand, gloveless, shivering in the 23 degrees outside. I lean on my heels and turn around the towering tree standing in my way. I see it. I see my glove. Sitting there, brushed in snow, waiting for my chilled hand to finally reunite with iced glove. I begin to speed up, no longer able to bare my naked hand. A smile creeps upon my face as I imagine the warmth I am about to endure, but that soon fades. I begin to fall, even faster than I was gliding down the mountain. Falling face first, I bring my arm up to stop my face from the collision with the snow. I scream. I yelp. I cry. Lying with my stomach to the snow, I call for my father just behind me. He rides up next to me and sits …show more content…
I am strapped down by two long black belts wrapped around my waist and the stretcher. The thick yellow sheet covers me from the falling snow. It’s bumpy, really bumpy. I am almost glad I fell because it seems very difficult to get down the end of this mountain, or at least that's what the driver makes it feel like. Although the bumps were fun to begin with, they begin to ache on my shoulder. With it not being supported, I used every muscle I had to keep it in place. In the next hour, I went from a snowmobile to the back of a van with another hurt kid. He as well had fallen, but he had hurt his knee …show more content…
The doctors gave me a sling to put my arm in and some medicine to help with the pain. The pill turned out to have a medicine I was allergic to and made me very sick when I took it, but that's a story for another time. The next day my mom sat me on the couch in front of the television, and they left to snowboard, which I gave them permission to do. Alone at the hotel, I was very gloomy. I was alone and there was snow outside. Living in Houston, we didn’t get a lot of the powdery, light, soft, icy rain that fell from the sky, and I was missing out. The next day was the same, boring and uneventful. By that time, I was depressed and bored beyond imaginable. I was beginning to think it was a waste of a vacation, and I could be doing so much more with my time, so I decided to change that.
I went out with my snowboard, in my sling, and put on my ski clothes. This time, I had both gloves and was very careful. Around 30 feet from our hotel was the middle of a ski run. I sat down, clipped my boots into my board, and stood up. I took a deep breath in and leaned forward. Immediately, my butt hits the icy cold ground. I was riding in fear, and I knew that wouldn’t end well, so I decided to climb back up. Luckily, my father happens to be on that exact run, and he helps me get out of the way and back up. Although he was upset that I tried to snowboard, he was sympathetic towards

I felt the stock of my bow while I was sitting in the blind. Frost had already began to form where I rubbed it off seconds ago. I looked through the small window at the everlasting snow. “Wait, was that a deer moving along those trees?” I asked myself. It looked more like a kangaroo making its way through the snow. I could barely stand up in the cold. I pulled back, ready to take the shot.…

The house had finally slept in (I assumed the excessive drinking over a two day span was the cause of this) and I felt like a million dollars. We packed up our things and headed to the slopes to catch a few more runs before heading back to Denver. Before we hit the chairlift I decided it would be in my best interests to keep drinking, and so I did. I took the leftover handle of vodka and polished every last disgusting drip out of it. Now that I had had my breakfast I was ready to ride, or at least I thought. Now I've snowboarded for most of my life so snowboarding to me is like second nature, but today was a little different. As the lift approached the top of the mountain I assumed the position to get off but wobbled a little too much and fell off about 5 feet before it arrived. Thank the lord it was a 3 foot drop at most and nothing was hurt but my ego. The lift attendants immediately ran over making sure I was ok. I brushed them off playing it cool and rode off. The rest of the run was about as sketchy as that first lift; I couldn't balance worth a damn. That's when I decided it would be best for others and myself if I quit and just went to the…

However, I quickly change my mind and leave the baseball bat inside the house. With music blasting, Ben takes off the parking brake and presses his foot down onto the gas pedal. Soon we are heading down dark winding roads as we listen to music from Captain Murphy, which contributes to our mischievous mood. Finally we arrive.…

As I crossed the road with my dog Henry, I could feel the frigid winter breeze on my face. Then I felt a snowflake land on my nose like a plane landing after a long flight. I didn’t like this cold weather at all but I had heard many children around me cheering and laughing. I heard things like “woohoo it is snowing” and things like “oww don't throw snowballs at my face”. That last one made me chuckle a little bit when I had heard it. Then I heard someone yell my name, which is Brian by the way. So I turned around and felt a big snowball hit my back.…

About 2,500 miles east lies the cold and rainy city of Canton, Ohio. The majority of my childhood was spent inside the house as Ohio was not ideal for outdoor adventure. Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

I walked on a thin layer of ice in high school; every time someone judged me, I could hear the ice slowly cracking under my feet. My life was in a fragile and brittle state during my junior year. I didn’t have the support of my parents, nor of my closest friends at this stage of my life. My own parents, teachers, and classmates had lost faith in me; to them it seemed as if I had ruined my life and that I would no longer succeed. On the contrary, I was determined to be successful because now I had someone special looking up at me as their role model.…

Joe and Simon are mountain climbing in the Andes, when Joe has a terrible accident. Here are two accounts by Joe and Simon of what happened. Joe’s account I hit the slope at the base of the cliff before I saw it coming. I was facing into the slope and both knees locked as I struck it. I felt a shattering blow in my knee, felt bones splitting, and screamed. The impact catapulted me over backwards and down the slope of the East Face. I slid, head-first, on my back. The rushing speed of it confused me. I thought of the drop below but felt nothing. Simon would be ripped off the mountain. He couldn’t hold this. I screamed again as I jerked to a sudden violent stop. Everything was still, silent. My thoughts raced madly. Then pain flooded down my thigh - a fierce burning fire coming down the inside of my thigh, seeming to ball in my groin, building and building until I cried out at it, and my breathing came in ragged gasps. My leg! ... My leg! I hung, head down, on my back, left leg tangled in the rope above me and my right leg hanging slackly to one side. I lifted my head from the snow and stared, up across my chest, at a grotesque distortion in the right knee, twisting the leg into a strange zigzag. I didn’t connect it with the pain which burnt my groin. That had nothing to do with my knee. I kicked my left leg free of the rope and swung round until I was hanging against the snow on my chest, feet down. The pain eased. I kicked my left foot into the slope and stood up. A wave of nausea surged over me. I pressed my face into the snow, and the sharp cold seemed to calm me. Something terrible, something dark with dread occurred to me, and as I thought about it I felt the dark thought break into panic: ‘I’ve broken my leg, that’s it. I’m dead. Everyone said it … if there’s just two of you a broken ankle could turn into a death sentence … if it’s broken … if … It doesn’t hurt so much, maybe I’ve just ripped something.’ I kicked my right leg against the…

I remember reaching the top of the hill with a very excited feeling. As I got to the top, the instructor at the top helped me off the chair. I waited for the other instructor to explain how I control my movements. While he was talking, all I thought about was hitting a tree and embarrassing myself. I just stood there looking at his red nose and chapped lips. He finally said something I found useful, he told me to lean whichever way I wanted to steer. After he finished explaining, I just went down that big hill of snow.…
