I asked my mom if I could go and she said ,“I’m not going to be able to go I have notes to write for work over the weekend.” I said, “ You have notes but I don’t, so can I go.” My mom said, “ Go ahead but I’m not driving you all the way to Rialto so Nana is gonna have to come pick you up tonight.” I said ,”Ok I’ll be back Sunday” I ran into my room and got my suitcase. I went on my iMessages to check if I had replied to everyone because sometimes I don’t reply right away, and… nothing by this point I had realized ,other than where I'm going to, I have pretty boring life. It took a while to enter since there was a line. I think it took about 20 minutes to actually be across the border. Once we crossed the border My grandma said, “ Sergio, puedes llevarme a una tienda a comprar tinte para que mi pelo cubra mis canas?” She was basically saying if my grandpa could take her to the store to buy hair dye to cover up her grey hairs. My grandpa drove to beauty store and waited for my grandma to come back. When she came back we drove to my Tia Quata’s house. We always go there to visit my cousin Michelle. Michelle is my cousin that is the same age as me. Michelle came up to me and gave me a hug and said “Hola Celeste”. “Hola Michelle como estas?” “ Good and you?” “Goods good.” I laughed at her accent when she was speaking to me in english. We played for about an hour while my grandparents and her grandparents spoke to each other. Michelle asked if I wanted to walk to the store with her. I told her that i had to ask first. My grandpa told me I could go and gave me 200 pesos which equal to $9.80 I the United

As I am approaching my tia’s house, I hear the roar of the music from the backyard, a mixture of air and percussion instruments like drums, trumpets, and clarinets. One could hear the laughter and sense of love amongst everyone at the party. Everyone is enjoying the delicious food, holding hands, dancing with one another, cheering on those who are displaying their love of our culture. In this community, you feel a sense of belonging and welcoming the moment you walk past the door. We honor and praise those who succeed, help the ones in need, and value one’s character rather than their appearance. As a first generation Mexican-American women in America, there is a certain pride and spirituality that is carried with you. This same pride is what keeps the tradition alive.…

Hola Diana, hope you are enjoying your week, and a happy easter to you too. Yes I saw those videos of the ice bridge collapsing , it must have been amazing to be there hearing all the noises of the ice craking and the thunderous sound of it falling into the lake, you wouldn't want to be in a fishing boat there when that crashed. Not looking forward to this saturday without the 60's show, and it will be sad to loose the people that can't make the sunday slot. I'll post this bit before it crashes again.…

There is no better way to bond with other people than to see them raw, vulnerable, and pushed to their bodies absolute limit at six o’clock in the morning, “Mama Duck, good run.” The nickname stuck. At first it was a little odd, but it grew on me really quickly. Anyone that I had ever once encountered my presents understood the name. It was cute, so of course, I went with it. However, no one understood my nickname more than my little ducklings- my cross country teammates.…

I want to start off by saying how excited I am to be joining A Place for Mom!! I started my career in health care nine years ago, originally working in nursing. I have worked in a variety of health care settings; Independent/Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long Term Care, Skilled Care, and the Hospital. I always knew I wanted to help people, seniors in particular. As a child I grew up living next door to my grandparents and did everything with them, this is where my love for seniors began. While working in the Hospital I came to the conclusion that nursing was not the way I was going to help people. I began working at an Assisted Living Community in Ames, Iowa as the Sales Director. I quickly learned that, that was how I was going to help people. For three years I got the pleasure of not only helping many families relieve their stress and fears for their loved ones care and safety, but I was also able to ensure their loved ones were able to live out their final years thriving. It was truly the most rewarding job, which brought me to A Place for Mom. At A Place for Mom I won't be limited to helping just the families that…

In my life, I have met certain people who have changed me for the better and have helped shape me into who I am today. A lot of those people have left but one that has always stood by my side and sticks out in my mind is my favorite person in the whole world, who happens to be my Papa. He has been there for me since day one, literally. He was the second person to hold me as in infant, after my mother. People like him don’t come around everyday. He is the most genuine person you will ever meet. A lot of people would speak this way about their relatives or friends but every person who my grandpa meets, leaves with a smile on their face.…

When I got to St. Vincent’s hospital I thought I was in labor but the doctor said my water wasn’t broken yet. So I had to walk up and down the hallway for the baby to come down. Then finally the doctor pulled my water. And oh my god I was in so much pain. The nurse said” Keep pushing, the baby is almost out.” With a final push I had my baby. She was the most beautiful little baby with dark hair and big light brown eyes. I called Diana.…

It was December 2010 and my family and I were planning to go on a trip to Mexico in December for Christmas break because me and my siblings were out of school. We were packed our clothes and ready to leave. We were waiting for my uncle to come to our house so we could go and get ready to leave. We left Houston around 8pm, and my uncle drove the Nissan Frontier truck and we went straight to 59 south towards Victoria. When we got Laredo around 12 am, we took a break at a corner store to put some gas in the car and buy something to eat, then we were ready to go. It was a long trip, I had needed to stretch my legs out. After we got our snacks, we left the corner store, and we headed straight to the border line. I…

2390 East Huntsville Road, I was 5 years old and use to my dad never being around always working until 3 am at his work. I don't remember waking up with my dad being home, but that had been life since I can remember. What I do remember is that I consider it the worst day of my life. I was 6 years old at the time, I got picked up from school by my mother who had a very cold look on her face the car ride home, but I didn’t think much of it. She was an adult and adults got upset easily. When we pulled into the drive I got out and I was excited to share my day with her, today for me was like every other day. But something was different, my father was home. My dad and mom asked me to come into their room for a minute, the…
