Personal Narrative: Moving Through My Life
At First I was apprehensive about moving for the gazillionth time. Through my life I was very unsettled moving from place to place. Now I had to move again, Which I felt very fed up with moving repeatedly. My father wanted to move closer to his family, and try to start a better life for us.
We were living in Effingham, IL, with a friend of ours. It was a yellow house, yet not like a bright yellow, more of a pale yellow. It was a 2 story house; the central floor and the basement. There four bedrooms. I preferred sleeping on the couch, still do. The living room couch was beige a large L-shaped couch in the left back corner of the room, and chalkboard above it. A tv in the right front corner of the room.
Living in the house was my mother, Tracy.

“Look, Jake I feel that if we do this move, it will be better for all of us, and we can be a family that you have never had,”Mark countered. Whatever, Mark I said under my breath.
Around the middle of August, two weeks before my birthday we moved to Decatur, seeing that there was no way around it, I gave in. A very chaotic time of my life, staying at multiple family members houses. At a point we didn’t have anywhere else to go. I stayed at Mark’s cousin’s house while they were staying in the old car we had at the time. As I was on my macbook, mark came into the room and got my attention. “Hey Jake, I had a talk with one of my other cousins, and she said that we could rent the old house that she lived in when she was a little girl,”Mark stated excitedly.
“Oh really….ok” I said nonchalantly.
Whatever I mentally retorted. We started with nothing except for the clothes on our backs, and a few other things. Mark’s side of the family got wind of our new home, and started giving us what we need to get started. Mark was shocked by how much how much stuff we got, because of his gigantic pride. Ever since then we have been getting our footing, it’s still been a little rocky, But We will get through

“We’ll see,” she answered. All of us kids worked frantically to unpack the car and put the luggage in each person’s bedroom of the house they were staying at. We stayed on my Grandfathers (Grandtom) properties when in Cape May. He had a large Victorian house (called 909) for him and my Grandmother (Granddot) and their guests and next door was a smaller but still grand Victorian house (called 907) for his children and their families and friends- that is where I stayed. There was a tennis court behind GrandToms house and a large garage with a one bedroom apartment above behind…

Moving to northern Wisconsin as a young girl was a scary and confusing time. Having been born in Chicago, all I knew was a big city, the crowds of people, the nonstop traffic and all the noises. My home, it was the only place I knew. How could my parents make a decision like this? How could they make me move to a place I had only visited once before -- but barely remembered? The sadness I felt was so overwhelming during that transition that I told myself that if I ever had a family, I would never make them move. As an adult, many years later, I look back and almost chuckle. My family and I have moved many times, for work or family and even adventure. Now as an adult, I push my children to find adventure in every move…

We began this process by doing what anyone else who moves does, which would be to begin packing up all their belongings into boxes. As I did this I felt as if every time I put one of my things into a box I was slowly packing up my life into this box and just as people lose things when they move, I was going to lose who I was as a person. My personality, hobbies, friends, and family were going to be packed up to never be seen again. As my family had completed the job of packing everything, we began the next step in completing our move which was going to our new home. Not that this step was already bad enough as it is, we had to journey all the way to the small town of Germantown, MD, which felt more like venturing through all 50 U.S. states rather than just going to one. Yet the worst part about the drive was not the brutal voyage across the country, it was the view that I saw almost every second of that three-day long ride. As I peered out of the window all I saw was an endless line of depressing, old boring trees and plants. I figured that I might as well get used to seeing those things, as that was most likely going to be what the view out of the window in my house. The window which I planned on staring out of the majority of the time to pass by the days in my new horror of a…

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to move? So many things could go wrong. You need a plan, and there are a lot of things you need to do to prepare for. When I moved four years ago, I did not know what to expect. This was my first time moving as a teenager, and I thought it was going to be easy. I moved from a house to an apartment and there were things I needed to do before and after I moved. I needed to start packing, moving all the boxes and furniture from one place to another, and thanking everyone who helped before and after moving everything.…

We finally found our way to the houseboat. We climbed out of the boat, and one after another, each family member said their hellos and each gave me a very welcoming hug. I felt like family already. We sat in the houseboat for about 30 minutes socializing and eating breakfast, when Brandon’s dad, Gary, decided to tell us we were moving the houseboat to a different spot for the day. Moving the houseboat is a lot more challenging than just one boat because the Connolly’s also had two jet skies, the ski boat and an old tin fishing boat (which wasn’t even registered).…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
