Personal Narrative: Moving To Another Planet
If the world was just fine, I would move to another planet and strive for better. Living in a small suburban town with two hard working, loving parents and five siblings. Two younger sisters, two older brothers, and an older sister, two kids were from my dad’s side, I grew up being the middle child with four children I was in the middle with my sister and with six children I was in the middle with my brother so no matter how you look at it I was stuck in between. This is important because I was always the odd one out. I have never needed glasses in a family brimming with glasses, I was the scrawny kid, I’m slow when it comes to jokes, and I’m awkward when speaking. But that never stopped me when I try my best I know that I am an unstoppable force.

He was ecstatic while I was only minimally enthusiastic. Both of us didn’t have any experience in engineering but my brother had a longer experience with other subject and as time passed I was his shadow always even when I tried twice as hard. One day I learned, a conversation with my teacher “I should never settle for what is okay I should always try for better” my teacher said. I took these words to heart. Now I am confident I may not have been as intelligent as my brother but he’s six foot three, I am five foot eleven and I have my own

I would not be able to bare the news of living for a remaining time of 365 days. First, I would announce it to my family members and loved ones. We would then plan out our days so we can spend as much time together. I would announce it only to my family so they can prepare themselves for what is coming, my death. I would leave bank accounts for both of my nephews so they could afford to attend a school of their choice. I would purchase a mansion for my mother in the Dominican Republic so she could quit her job and live happily with a monthly allowance. I would buy a flight for my father and I to Cuba so we can both travel back to his home country together. My father would then demonstrate where he used to live when he resided there. We would…

Me being the impatient but helpful person I am I said “yeah sure”. So I moved this little box that any kid in my class could have easily moved outside of her moving it herself. She stopped what she was doing at her cabinet and she showed me my final exam grade and it said 89% B+. A surprised me began smiling excited that I would pass the class with almost a B average for the year. She looked at me and said “T, you are smart. You have given me 40% effort and still somehow you still have managed to pass my class, I struggle dealing with students who are incapable but try hard every single day and you don't show me any effort and still manage to do have a decent grade…” “Why are you afraid? You are easily one of the most gifted students I have encountered and you show no effort?”. I just sat there lost and confused and wondered how she knew and wonder why I had wasted all this time not living up to my full potential, I had let my fear of failure keep me from being the best student I could be. I now look at it and regret the decisions I made in the past. Everyday i have learned to allow myself have higher expectations than I have before. There was a lesson in what my teacher said to me and I will…

One day nearly two years ago, I came back from the worst trip and experience ever in my life. Three years ago, my family made the biggest decision of our lifetime together and we had decided to move. Now the fact that we were moving didn’t bother me or my little sister, it was just the simple fact that we were moving from our home that we had grown up in our entire life. The only problem was the fact that we had eventually found out that we were going to move to Oregon. This Alabama home that we grew up in was very special to me and my sister but it wasn’t the one of best of places. We had lived right beside our grandparents and we loved to go up the hill and see them and us moving had rendered that possibility from happening any longer.…

In March of 2007, I entered the United States illegally. Prior to this, I had been deported twice. Crossing the border was very dangerous, but I had to do it because in Mexico we are very poor. My father passed away 21 years ago, and my mom was left a widow with 11 children. My oldest brother moved out of the house, so I had to step up and help my mom raise my siblings. Where I’m from, there aren’t many jobs available, only on the fields and the pay wasn’t enough to support us. I didn’t want to cross the border, but I had no other choice. I ask for your forgiveness for breaking the immigration law by crossing the border and living in America illegally.…

“Life is a marathon and you're still at the store buying your running shoes." I was sitting in class in ninth grade zoning out when my global history teacher approached and told me that. Those words hit me hard, and for the first time I felt shame. I was never the brightest student in my family, always stuck in the shadow of my overachieving sister. I didn’t take school seriously. I figured there was no point in pursing an education if I was going to join my father in his food business.…
