During my first week of classes I learned that mandatory homework is limited, however, if you wish to thrive and truly maximize the learning experience you will have to dedicate much more time.
Consequently, putting in the effort, for completing all the homework that isn’t mandatory, is what will push you forward on quizzes and midterms. Additionally, coming into university I was scared that all my professors were going to be these angry and careless
instructors. This depiction of university life in movies where professors are unhelpful and intent on student failure is a complete falsification. For all of my courses in my first semester, I would often ask professors questions after class, and every time the professor would ask me if I now understood. Additionally, professors are always advocating to provide any additional support during office hours if you are slightly nervous to ask questions in class. One of the more interesting decisions I made so far in engineering was joining an Engineering Design Team, a group of students whom design various projects for various competitions. Joining the team was an excellent venture because of all the new students I got to meet, including first years as well upper years. In all the Engineering Design Teams, most students are engineers so you are given lots of support for academics specifically from upper year students who can provide studying assistance as well as motivation.
