lean towards a Pro-Gun choice. On the bill, HR 1181- Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, the bill would allow the sale of guns to veterans deemed mentally capable of handling a weapon. He is typically supportive of letting people have guns. I support him because he letting people have guns, but the people must have a certain background that meets criteria to deem them safe. I do not like how easy it can be to buy a gun but if they are more criteria to reduce the availability to buy a gun, I would be a happier citizen. Interest groups support Steve Russell on subjects such as “campaign for working families.” For this vote, one-hundred percent of the voters supported his choice on this vote. He voted for more government help to families in the working class. I support this as well since there are an abundant amount of working class families in Oklahoma. What I like about Russell is that he was born and raised in Oklahoma, so he knows how the state works and what needs to change. What I dislike about Russell is that he does not have a degree in law, I think it is important that a person representing me should be educated in law so they would know it at its fullest. From my research, I would vote for Steve Russell to be reelected since his voting records follow my beliefs. His gun stance with guns being allowed to be sold but only to certain people is an example of what I like.
In Oklahoma, the senior seat US Senator is Jim Inhofe. He is married to his wife, Kay Inhofe, and has four children. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 71, 1934 and resides in Tulsa, OK. He obtained a BA in Economics at the University of Tulsa in 1973. Inhofe served in the US Army and was a land developer before he became involved in politics. He started in the Oklahoma State House of Representatives, Mayor of Tulsa, and US Representative before he became the senior seat US Senator. What surprises me is his age. He will be turning 83 by the end of this year. His ideas might not truly represent the current population in Oklahoma because of the extreme age gap. Jim Inhofe receives monetary contributions from groups such as from Devon Energy, Boeing Co, and Murray Energy. The sectors he receives the most money from are the Energy/Natural Resources, Real Estate, and Single-Issue groups. What is not surprising is that he receives a large amount of money from energy companies. How this could be the case is that since he has been a senator for such a long time, he would have made a lot of friends during his tenure. The industries where Inhofe receives the most monetary contributions are Oil & Gas, Retired people, and Leadership PACs. Jim Inhofe’s voting on education lean toward a less government involvement for public education. On the bill, S Amdt 1122 - Education Funding Amendment, he voted against it. It would provide a direct funding to school’s grades K-12. He voted with the republicans who all voted against the bill. I disapprove of this since he is depriving funding to the future of the state. Without funding, schools will not be able to teach at a level where the students are benefiting and being prepared for the future. Jim Inhofe got support from his interest groups on subjects such as “American Wind Energy Association.” He received a hundred percent approval rating for his stance of promoting it. The association promotes the use of wind power to create energy. I like Inhofe’s stance on it because wind energy is a lot cleaner than traditional coal energy. Most of the states supported the wind energy so I was not surprised that he voted that way too. Based on my research, what I like about Inhofe is that he supports clean energy. It is better for the environment to use clean energy such as wind because it is less harmful to the environment. What I don’t like about him is that he is too old and that he does not support public education. Since he is so old, his ideas will not fit the needs of the people now in the state of Oklahoma. Him not supporting education for grades K-12 by not passing a bill to provide direct funding is a real concern. The future of the people is in the kids, so they deserve to have the funding they need to succeed. I will not vote for Jim Inhofe for reelection based on my research. His ideas are a concern for me, and I want new ideas to be put in the Senate to match my needs.
In Oklahoma, the junior seat US Senator is James Lankford, he is married to his wife, Cindy and has two children.
He was born in Dallas, TX on March 4th, 1968 and currently resides in Edmond, OK. He obtained a MDiv at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994 and a BS in Secondary Education at University of Texas in 1990. Lankford was a missionary and a director at a youth camp before he became involved in politics. He started his political career as a US Representative in the 5th district of Oklahoma in 2010 then he moved on to his current position as the US Senator in 2014. What is interesting is that he did not have any prior involvement to being a politician before he became
one. James Lankford receives monetary contributions from groups such as from Devon Energy, Koch Industries, and Honeywell International. The sectors he receives the most money from are the Energy/Natural Resources, Real Estate, and Single-Issue groups. What is surprising is that he receives more than a million dollars from the Energy and Natural Resource sectors in Oklahoma. It seems that the Oklahoma businesses support Lankford because they give him so much money. The industries where Lankford receives the most monetary contributions are Oil & Gas, Retired people, and Leadership PACs. James Lankford’s voting on energy lean towards a more focus on energy on the mainland United States. In the bill, HR 4899 - Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act of 2014, Lankford voted in favor of the bill. The bill provided the ability for more oil drilling sites on federal land in the US. Most Republicans voted in favor of this while most the Democrats voted against the bill. It does not surprise me that most Republicans voted in favor because most of their state’s economies are dependent on the oil and natural gas industries. Even though they sought to bring more drilling jobs to the US I disapprove of this because too much drilling can be harmful to the environment. I would be uncomfortable to see drills everyday surrounding public places. Interest groups did not support James Lankford on issues such as education. The issue was “National Education Association” which help provide students what they need to be successful. He only received twenty-five percent approval rating on his stance, which was for the association. The Democratic party received more support from their interest groups because the group formed from the Democratic party. The support is divided which the Democrats are getting all the support while the Republicans get all the disapproval. I would be in favor for this association because education is important for the future. Based on my findings, what I like about James Lankford is that he can go against what his party wants and go with what is best for the people. A politician should not vote just to please his party, they should vote on what is best for his people in his state. What I dislike about Lankford is that he supports drilling of non-renewable resources such as coal and natural gas. Drilling for these resources can be harmful to the area surrounding the drilling site. I would continue to vote for Lankford to be in office because I believe he knows what is best for the people of Oklahoma.
