Personal Narrative: My Eagle Vision Application
“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed …show more content…
Well, I was at a loss for words when I read that sentence because I realized that I don’t know why it is, that I do what I do. If I were to dig in deeper, like really deep, I would assume it’s because I want to do good for myself and my parents. But there are goals to be made. Accomplishments to achieve. And lessons to learn. The first step, started with you. You sparked that idea into my head. That one question, “Should I go into the medical field?” I asked that because I hated the idea of being a doctor and was unsure of what to do with my life. Most Asian parents want their children to be a doctor or a lawyer and most kids hate the pressure pushed onto them. As for me, it actually woke me up. I’m not gonna lie and say it wasn’t for the money, but I can say that there are more reasons that go

My parents have always told me I am “special” and “weird” at the same time. My easy understanding of complex medical terms and procedures has always surprised them, as well as my creativity regarding visual arts and my passion for reading. Therefore, after reading about The Brown Curriculum, I was thrilled to be able to take lessons such as the infinity of mathematics and Russia’s escape from Communism. Finally, Brown is the university I am enamoured with; it is my dream to attend this university as it will allow me to grow as a holistic person.…

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

When considering my attributes as a medical school applicant, I am convinced that I would be a great fit for the Creighton University School of Medicine community. As mentioned in my previous response, I am from a Christian background and intend to continually pursue my relationship with God throughout my years in medical school. Seeing as though Creighton is founded in a religious tradition, my belief in God makes me an excellent example for the reinforcement of the Catholic tradition. My heart has been set on the pursual of good and helping others since a very young age which has led me to a career in medicine, a character trait that fits in well with Creighton University’s endeavor to improve the human condition. As well as my religious background and heart to serve others, I place a lot of emphasis on self-discipline and strive for excellence in all aspects of my life.…

Coming from a strict family, I knew that my parents had set high goals for me. Like the usual Asian parent stereotype, my mother and father wanted me to pursue a career in a higher field, especially a money-making career that would benefit them and me. “Become a doctor,” they said. “Become a nurse, or a lawyer, or maybe even join the military!” It all sounded so crazy to me, and it was definitely a lot of pressure to face. The truth is, I never came close to becoming the child my parents wanted me to be. I never met their standards, and it bothered me almost every second of my life.…

During my life I never put extra time nor did the extra mile for about anything and I believe the root of this was just being lazy and not making goals for myself. I was just doing the bare minimum for just about everything from sports ,to school, or just communicating with others. However, this all changed after I was inspired by the movie Vision Quest. This movie has inspired me so much that whenever I feel like I’m getting burnt out from wrestling practice, homework, or other problems, I just watch Vision Quest and it motivates me to do everything thing 100%. This movie also helped me make big goals for myself and sticking to them by remembering what's more important and not quitting no matter what anybody says.…

I remember the first time that I encountered Oberlin College: I was nine-years-old and had just learned that colleges hadn’t always admitted women or African-Americans, and found that Oberlin was the first school to admit both. So, when I stumbled upon an Oberlin booth at my school’s college fair six years later, Oberlin was already a familiar name, but as I explored the options available at the school, I found that it also fits my interests.…

No doubt my influences have inspired me to set my life on a course to pursuing a career in the medical field as far as my motivations they stem from helping others, knowledge, development, moral personal standards and helping society. These values explains what I inspire to become and provide through my work. Helping others has always been a natural goal for myself. It came easy for me to want to help others. Helping others is important to me, because the smallest gestures of help can transform one’s life in the most beneficial way. Not everyone has the help of family and friends so, I believe everyone needs help even when they do not ask for it. Just knowing that by helping others I can possibly improve one’s mood, life or health creates meaning and purpose for my life. It makes me feel like I am working towards my purpose. For example, in high school I was in a club called the Random Act of Kindness Club. While in this club I learned that just by doing small acts of kindness can really make a difference in the lives of others. While in this club I decorated a teacher’s door because she got teacher of the month. We surprised her by decorating her door. This may mean nothing to some people, but to her it meant everything. It showed her that her…

I was playing indoor soccer on a Tuesday night. We had five minutes on the clock and we were down by one. The game was getting very intense and I wanted to keep on playing to the end, but I was feeling weak and tired. I asked my coach for a substitute. As I was walking out from the field, I was feeling very frustrated and annoyed. I knew my teams’ potential and ability to beat the other team, but somehow we weren’t getting the job done. While I was looking from the sidelines with frustration and anger in me, I took a moment to observe myself. I took a couple steps back from my body and I saw myself leaning with both my elbows on a wall observing the game. While I was observing myself I didn’t think of anything else but on how I could change…

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” She said. In my mind, I had so many thoughts running through my little learning brain while sitting in those bucket seat wooden desks that were covered in pencil writings of people’s names. I was in 7th grade when the teacher asked the class what we wanted to do when we grew up. I thought maybe a pilot, a doctor or a lawyer. Something common like everyone else. We were taught as young kids and adults, you go to school, graduate from high school and then proceed to college to further a career of your choice. My parents always strictly enforced that. While exploring different kinds of careers all throughout 7th to 12th grade, I made an important decision that would soon be my future. With my personality, my morals and beliefs, and my interest to travel, a traveling registered nurse was what I wanted to be. I’ve always loved going to big hospitals or clinics and was always fascinated by them. Most importantly, I am a people person and love to help people in any way shape or form. I jump started on my nursing career and took a certified nursing assistant (CNA) during high school and a pharmaceutical…
