During that year it was common for someone to be called a nerd if they had glasses because that was the “insult” of the year for someone in elementary school. But it only took one person to point out the difference, a boy who was a year older than me pointed out to the entire class that I had glasses and i became known as Shanti 4 by 4. There were a couple of shows out that gave the impression that if someone wore glasses they were less important popularity wise. But education wise they were the person to instanly shove your homework to and force them to do it. Glasses in mass media meant the basics smart, unimportant and more importantly a target for bullying.
