Personal Narrative: My Experience With Religion
I love storytime. Since I was a young girl, before I went to sleep every night I would ask my father to tell me a story. I would crawl into my bright pink sheets and my eyes would eagerly peak from underneath them as I waited for my father to take a seat on the side of the bed. There was one condition among my desire for stories. I wanted to hear about the miracles brought forth by God. I was always intrigued to hear of former miracles that proved God’s existence, such as individuals who were healed simply by a prayer or families that survived natural disasters because they had trust in the superior power. My parents, both Polish immigrants, have always been religious and thus they passed their beliefs onto my sibling and I. Religious practices became a part of our developing life. Attending church regularly grew into our weekly routine, praying everyday felt as common as eating dinner. Since religion has played such a large role in my life, I felt as though continuing my academic career in a school without religious aspects would be unfulfilling. When I first received an Olivet bourchier in the mail, the first thing that caught my attention was the small yellow flame with a cross drawn on it. I recognized the symbol quickly and I eagerly began my research on Olivet Nazarene University. …show more content…

Together, we believe. Together, we become”. This line itself moved me, it caught my attention and I felt a connection to those words. My church family connects differently than other my other social groups. Taken into consideration, it is obvious that we have grown with respect and comfort. There never seemed to be judgments or an unpleasant atmosphere. I fell in love with all the guidance I received throughout the years in my local church, and I gradually became my true self. Having such a large support group in Olivet would aid me immensely in my upcoming

This morning I attended a weekday mass at All Saints Catholic Church. The church itself is relatively large from what I saw. The exterior had many well-tended trees and bushes, with a sign pointing to the office, and a cross about six feet tall out front by a cement walkway which led to the entrance. The building itself was a taupe color with dark brown roofing and glass doors leading at the entrance. As I walked through the glass doors I was not greeted by anyone, so I followed what everyone else was doing. I noticed a holy water font in front of the doors leading directly to the room of worship. I watched as the casually-dressed Parishioners, all aged at least sixty-five years, and mostly white, middle-class women dipped their fingers into the font and then made the sign of the cross, before entering the worship area.…

I'm sure everyone has wondered in their lifetime, “Is there really a God?”. I know I have! There are many religions like Buddhism and Hinduism, but most people believe in Christianity. Christianity follows the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ with the belief that He is God. There are many branches of Christianity. I'm writing this to tell you about why I am a Nazarene Christian. The things I will be covering are wildlife, the spread of Christianity, and the planet Earth's perfect tilt.…

Here I am in honor classes, but why I’m not smart enough to be here. This is going to be too difficult for me. All I see when I look around are all these outstandingly intelligent people. The only reason I am here is because Mrs. Lee’s class was straightforward or maybe the other people in that class were not very bright. Whatever the reason, I am here and already homework on the first day of school, the other kids probably don’t have homework. I really don’t want to be here, I want to be the smart one again. I feel strange and uncomfortable when I have to speak out loud like if the people around me are judging me.…

Catholicism has always been the central religion in my family heritage. Each of my family members, originating back to my great grandmother have been raised Roman Catholic. Both on my mother and father’s sides of the family they practice Catholicism. My entire life has been centralized around faith and believing in one God. I attended Catholic School from 2nd to 12th grade and I gained a large amount from the faith filled environment. However, it was not until I was 15 years old that I became fully involved with my relationship with God and practiced Catholicism properly. The reason I became so involved with my relationship with God was because I attended a Catholic Youth Conference in Atlanta, Georgia called, “Steubenville Catholic Youth…

I never thought how interesting it would be to visit a different place of worship besides Christianity. Since the day I was born I’ve been a Christian and whatever anyone else believes in is wrong and that they are going to hell if they don’t believe in Christianity. About 3 years ago I visited the International Buddhist Progress Society a Buddhist temple in Naperville. Buddhism from what I learned looks more like a way of life or guidelines to it rather than a religion. Buddhism tells you how you could live life better but doesn’t scare you with the prospect of hell instead you live with ignorance. My own history with Christianity still made me doubt or fear the conquences of going to this temple. Part of me believed that I be punished by…

My first memory involving religion of any kind is when my grandmother was my temporary Sunday school teacher. This memory had absolutely nothing to do with reading the bible or praying or doing anything of that sort. I have no idea why I remember it either. The memory is of about four other kids and me sitting around the Sunday school table while my grandma sang a song about our ancestry and how it didn’t start with monkeys. The song went like this “I’m no kin to the monkey, the monkey’s no kin to me. I don’t know much about his ancestors but mine didn’t swing from a tree!” And it continued to repeat just like that. I will always remember this no matter what. Even now I can remember the exact flow of the song and the sound of my grandma’s voice.…

After taking the self-assesment I have discovered a few thing I did not know about myself. I figured out my strengths and weaknesses and have found out I am a successful student! One of my highest scores was in 'Accepting Personal Reponsibility' another was 'Mastering Self-Management'. I am very well organized and it is very unlikely for me to not accept responsability when I am at fault. My lowest score was 'Believing In Myself' which was hard to believe since I always try to push myself past any challenge.…

My collage is Freedom of Religion, why I chose this freedom is because everyone has a religion, even though some people don’t choose to have a religion, it is important to them. ¨With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.¨ by Steven Weinberg. I chose this quote because anyone can have a religion it does not matter what kind of race they are, gender, or how they look. They choose what to believe in not what others believe in. Not everyone will believe in God, others may believe in something else and they cannot change that.…

After thinking about it, I thought Wicca hasn't really changed my life that much, at least not in concrete ways. I've always loved the Earth and thought of it as being beautiful and precious. I've always been fascinated at the beauty and mystery of the Moon and the starry sky. I've always found Nature to be healing in an all inclusive way that encompasses the physical, mental and spiritual realms. I've always believed that our minds have the power to accomplish amazing things. I've always thought that there is much more to this Universe than what we can see with our eyes and grasp with our minds.…

The person I choice to interview this week just like last week is also someone I turn to when I am faced with questions and concerns regarding all of my biblical classes and sometimes just personal spiritual questions. That person is my pastor and my father in law who has been a southern Baptist preacher for over thirty years. Of those thirty years he has only been pastor of two churches both, which have been very successful while he was and is presently the pastor. When we talk about anything and everything overall we have a great relationship. I choose to interview him this week because I knew he would be able to show me the more experienced side of his ministry because of his years of serving the lord.…
