Personal Narrative: My First Meeting
On last week's first meeting we had the following incidents occur:
1) Zanna Prentiss was video recording students with her phone to post on her Snap Chat account. I kindly asked her to delete and not post the video. She then was being disrespectful for the rest of the meeting and towards the final minutes left the room with Katie Walkama. When the meeting finished both of them and Josh Bent came back into the room, and asked me to speak with them outside of the room to discuss about what had happened. I explained to them that these kids were under my responsibility at that time and, that nobody can film or audio record anybody without permission. I have signed commitment contracts from those students, meaning they agreed to the Real Talk handbook …show more content…
rules which includes; to follow the rules in the SACS student handbook, to respect all team members, and to not post anything about RT on any of your personal social media accounts. She then, claims that I "called her out" and "humiliated" her when I asked her to not post the video.Then began arguing and causing a scene. I told her lets talk with a teacher about this and she angrily said "no." At that moment Ms.Cabral was their to help us out. Zanna began to cry and Ms.Cabral explained to her that she can't video record anyone without permission and had a conversation.
Then while Pamela and Ms.Cabral were handling that situation, Calvin and I were trying to solve the other one.
2) Tyresse Mkusa was constantly calling Josh Bent "Chubaca," which hurt his feelings.
I told Tyresse you can't be calling other people names, and to please stop. I also reminded him that the rules are in the handbook, which he claims he has not read yet. Calvin and I later found out that he did bother Josh and decided that Calvin will teach Tyresse on how to be funny without crossing the line and hurting other people's feelings. At this point I'm not sure if Josh is still bothered by the situation, but at that time, I told him if he wants to go talk about it with Ms. Ricker or Ms.Roy to go ahead, but he thinks that Calvin's idea will help.
Meanwhile, Ms.Russo and her daughter stopped by to see if everything was okay. Pamala, Clavin, and I explained to her both situations and realized our main issue that day was with respect. Then all of a sudden Zanna comes storming out of the conversation she was having with Ms.Cabral and yelled at us very angrily in front of all those teachers "Katie and I quit with Real talk", I then replied and said "okay, that's fine."
Ms.Russo suggested that I reported these two incidents to you. Both Ms.Cabral and Ms.Russo suggested/volunteered to help us out at our next meeting to have everybody on the same page about the rules. Ms.Cabral also says that she is there anytime for RT, and to help guide
us.
