Personal Narrative: My First Trip To Washington, D. C.
“Yes,”I thought. The day was finally here!
“Do we have everything?” my mother asked.
“I think so,”my father replied. Today was the day we were heading to Washington, D.C. “This is my first trip,” I thought, “I hope that nothing happens to our flight”. My mom and my brother were also coming, but I wish my brother, Myles didn’t have to come. The reason we’re going to Washington, D.C. is because my sister, Lolo goes to school there.
We had to go through security and a bunch of other boring stuff. “This is taking forever,” I thought, I thought it would be more exciting”. We eventually got on a plane, it was really stuffy because of all the stuff by our feet. I kept thinking, “I hope we don’t lose our bags”. When we got off we had to go on another

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…

If I had harnessed the ability to travel through time, I would choose to experience 1960’s Washington D.C.. The city was struck with such large amounts of heartbreak, but at the same time, many people had more courage than they’ve ever had. I would spend the first couple of hours exploring the riots on the roads, the segregation present in the shops, and just how people felt in this time.…

Last year, I was one of three high school Juniors chosen by my local electric cooperative to join students from across Arkansas in a trip to Washington D.C. During this trip, our group visited all the usual tourist spots in Washington: the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Smithsonian among others. But of the sites we visited, the ones that affected me most were the places related to President Thomas Jefferson. Previous to this trip, I knew very little about Jefferson, and even wondered what he did to deserve a place on Mount Rushmore. However, this trip exposed me to Jefferson in an entirely new way. We visited Monticello, his home in Virginia, where I learned about Jefferson’s broad interests in science, architecture, and philosophy,…

Hey guys! Today I went on a crazy adventure to somewhere I have never been before! I flowed down a cascade mountain range and into the amazing and beautiful Columbia river. My friends I met in the mountains and are now headed to the mouth/ delta of the river the Pacific ocean where we will hopefully be evaporated again. We just exited the headwaters and will be entering some tributaries along our journey. Although, this river doesn’t have many dangers I am concerned of entering a creek because I like going straight to the ocean to be evaporated again because water droplets like me love to travel! This has been a pretty easy journey so far but I have got to say I have been a bit chilly. The weather down here has been around 25-30 degrees so that…

Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…

America, land of the free and home of the brave, a country strengthened with rights, equality, and justice. For Americans it’s just a regular country, with regular rules and laws, nothing special about it. Although, to immigrants it’s a country to reinterpret their lives, a better life, a life where they’re free to pursue their happiness and follow their dreams. Even though America is a great country, adjusting to a new culture isn’t easy. It took patience, support, understanding, and passion in order for me to balance two different cultures.…

I grew up in Vietnam and accepted Vietnam education during my childhood. It was July 19, 2011 when my parents had the opportunity to come to America as immigrants. I have great appreciation for my grandparents and parents because they gave up everything to come to America. They did this to give their children a better life and education. I still remember the day that I left my country; it was a beautiful memory that I won’t ever forget. The plane took off at 5:00 am, so we had to arrive at the airport at 3:00 am. All of my family was there with us, we were hugging and crying. It took all my strength and courage to keep from crying that day; I had to control my feelings. I couldn’t cry because if I cried it would’ve been too hard to say goodbye. Finally, I couldn’t control my tears; they raced down…

You have expressed yourself so well. Thank you for waiting a day before responding. I too, have waited, not just two days to express my view but months. During these months, I have been caught between” a rock and a hard place”. You see, my oldest will vote for the very first time in our American democracy for president. I feel sorry for him. The first time I voted, I voted for Reagan. Time has advanced to a point where he has no choice. He has to make a decision, with his vote, that is not good either way. He has watched the news, he has listened to his parents along with his American Government teacher. He has also been able to discern for himself. Yet, he will vote. Why? Because we, in our family, believe our country is still great and those…

I drew a picture that I think best resembles one of the things that I am most thankful for: freedom. When I think of freedom, I think of the White House, because that is one of the major icons of this country. I also think of a fighter jet (the F-15E specifically because my dad is in the Air Force and that is the jet that he flies.) Another thing that I think of is the U.S capitol building, with its huge, massive structure and its magnificent dome looming over Washington D.C, symbolizing the great power and freedom that we have. Also, a red cross and a modern hospital representing the first-class healthcare that we have is another icon that I drew representing freedom and our great nation. A wooden cross logged into the top of a hill with…
