When I made this goal I made sure that I made it achievable and reasonable. I wanted to learn how to backflip on skis. For this, I had to train, and when I train there is often failure. But at the end, I had achieved my goal of backflipping on skis by perseverance and peer competition.
As I was going on my first ski trip I had no idea what I was getting into.
I had just had a whole five or six-month break from skiing where I could do nothing but only think about skiing. So as I headed down the mountain for the first run I nearly fell five times.I was not in shape for skiing. Furthermore, I was on a mountain I was not familiar with and, I didn't have any sense of direction. But as …show more content…
I experienced that day, I was in need of some extra help in order to achieve my goal that at the time seemed nearly impossible.
Later in the season I finally started to realize that in order to reach my goal I had to do something to achieve my goal. At this point, I had no idea what I was going to do soI did what most people do. Look up a how-to video on youtube about how to backflip on skis. When I watched this video I was flabbergasted that just about all the videos I watched, the only advice I could pull out of them was to learn how to backflip. This was really shocking to me because in my mind I have imagined this trick to be more complex than just a backflip. But, it turns out to do a backflip on skis you have to backflip without out skis. So after the mountain, I was on a trampoline practicing my backflips and working towards conquering my goal.
Additionally, I was pushed to complete a backflip by my peers.
Not in the way that you would normally think.I was pushed by my peers not because they encouraged me but because I wanted to be the first of my friend group to be able to do the flip. Furthermore, I was able to take that mentality of wanting to complete the flip first and show it on the mountain.I was always wanting to go and find a jump that was fit to backflip on but, my friends were never too interested in that because they were always interested in the big fields of powder or racing through the trees. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the powder and trees too but, I was in it for the backflip. After finding the perfect jump, I was super stoked to just go off it and see if I could finally backflip. As I set up for my first run I looked around me as I saw my friends and even an older group of kids that were seniors and juniors.I knew that I had to just remember my training and make sure I did everything right, as I was taking off the jump I flew back and made the rotation but then fell right on my face. But I got right back up, hiked to the top and did it over and over until I could land a backflip. When I finally finished all of my friends were amazed and then they wanted to try, I even had someone from the chairlift came and tell me that my flip was crazy.
When I Push myself to do a task or goal I want to achieve I make sure I do my best and work hard to accomplish my goal. As I went into the 2017~2016
ski session I set my mind to one thing and one thing only, I need to backflip. So through perseverance and hard work, I was able to accomplish my goal even though I had little training and not enough times on the mountain. I defied the odds and accomplished my goal.
