Personal Narrative: My Immigrant From Spain
I talked to my great grandmother, on my moms side, and asked her many questions about our ancestors. "Most of the generations I know about have lived in New Mexico. Usually when people ask us we say Spain because we know our ancestors didn't come from Mexico. I'd say Spain" she said word for word. I also asked her how long ago they came and she didn't know so I assume they came a long time ago.

I asked my mom about the family on her dads side and she said they came from Spain as well. The ancestors on my moms side came from Spain. I don't know about the ancestors on my dads side because I don't have many connections to my dad. I do know that my dad came from Ohio but that

The main culture I will be talking about today in my interviews is the Mexican culture. The Latino culture contains many sub cultures including many South American countries and Central America. This will be an in depth interview of Mexican culture, but it is only a small fraction compared to the amount of different cultures we have in our country today.…

I immigrated because of the Cristero War, in Spain. The war was actually a rebellion of the Roman Catholics in Spain who were persecuted by the government. There were dangers such as raids and the death toll was growing higher every day. Being a Catholic Christian family who simply wanted to live in peace, we moved out to escape the war and the persecution that had caused it.…

I am a temporary migrant. My father told me that I should extend my horizon and feel the different culture to open myself, because he knew I am unsociable. I think it is a pull factor because it's so hard for me to join the competitions in China. But I do not intend to immigrate to Canada, leaving home is not what I want even if I left home all the time.…

The word "Hispanic" describes someone who comes from Spain or Spanish-speaking Latin America. The Spanish colonial period took place between 1492 and 1898, when Spaniards migrated from Spain and brought with them traditional Hispanic foods. Hispanic food stems from the traditional cooking methods of ancestors from the countries of Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar; it is from here that…

I am proud to say, "I am a perfect blend of sweet and salty." My ethnic background consists of two; My dad being Salvadorian and my mom is Mexican, making me and my siblings quite the concoction of Hispanic blood. You would think because we are all in the Hispanic category our lives wouldn't be difficult since we speak Spanish, have the same characteristics, and usually, family traditions are or should be quite similar. Not completely, in this case, I recently found out that it isn't common for Salvadorians and Mexicans to get along because they both are just as proud and tough. In specifics, my mom always has given me the warm side of caring for others, being family oriented is important and giving is always better than receiving. My dad, on the other hand, was very dry in emotion he…

It is hard to be an immigrant or being the daughter of one. I still remember the day when my mom left me with my uncles to come to the United States, because on that day I acted as it was a regular day. I had a different perspective about my mom years ago, I used to call her “witch” because she always wanted me to my homework, have good grade at school; while my priority as a child was to have fun (play as a little child). When me and my family went to the airport to say goodbye to my mom, every thought I was going to cry, but I did not instead I said “finally.” I always regret myself for saying that, but I was a child whose priority was to play. After days and months I started to miss my mom, I was raised with my uncle; they were nice to me…

The day started off as any normal day. My mother woke me up and said “we must go.” Her voice sounded very urgent for what I thought was just a trip to the grocery store. My mom laid my outfit on my bed and packed by book bag; that’s when I figured out that I was starting school. I wasn’t entirely oblivious to the fact that I was going to familiarize myself with a completely different environment, but I just thought I had a little more time to prepare. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. You see, I wasn’t your average pre-schooler who was nervous about making friends. I was the immigrant child who had never spoken a word of English.…

The interviewee I chose to interview is my mom, Maria Hernandez. She is currently 41 years old, she immigrated to the U.S.A when she was 20 years old. She came from San Luis de La Paz, Guanajuato, Mexico. My mom immigrated on November 1997. The reason why I chose to interview my mom was because before interviewing her I knew that she emigrated when she was 20 years old, and due to my dad already living in the U.S.A at the time. Therefore, I wanted to know if she had an easier journey to the United States of America and if she felt safer traveling in the late 90´s. Also, it could have made the journey easier due to her already knowing where exactly to travel to since my dad already lived in the U.S.A at the time.…

Growing up I excelled in every educational aspect of school. However the stereotype for someone of my skin color did not allow for me to be both Mexican and smart. My Hispanic peers began to exclude me; the most common way they did that was by taking away my identity as a Mexican. I heard “Diego you white” an uncountable number of times throughout my schooling. I noticed that my grades and vocabulary would trigger that comment so I began to change the way I acted in order to fit in. It was not until recently that I realized the fault in changing and found a peaceful merge between the two speech communities.…

As an immigrant, it is nothing out of the ordinary to encounter people who are of a different cultural background from myself. Being born in Venezuela and raised in a diverse yet predominantly Latin city within the Unite States has bred a singular perception of American and Venezuelan culture. Though one would assume it improves with practice, explaining to another person what “I am” is a daunting task. This usually involves outlining my place of birth, my upbringing, my parents’s place of birth and upbringing, and several other details.…

Having an immigrant status in Los Angeles was problematic. Growing up, I always tried to fit into the typical American lifestyle by trying to erase my Mexican culture. I got to the point where I was a master in reducing my heritage. I was ashamed how Mexicans were named called “criminals” “lazy” and “drunks.” So, I believed if I tried to be more American my problems would disappear. I wanted to join every typical American sport from dance to cheerleading. I displayed my name as Amber instead of Daisy because I thought it sounded more American. In high school, everyone referred to my American name Amber. During elementary, middle school, and high school I fought every obstacle that was thrown my way when it came to my identity. I not only struggled with my identity I also struggled in school. My parents did not understand why the school was difficult for me. Being raised in Los Angeles County, I have seen many of my friends and…

    My Immigrant Experience

    * I am 28 year old male from Italy that came to America for a new life. My experience in America is totally different from my native country of Italy. Italy government has a parliamentary government based on a proportional voting system. The Parliament of Italy is perfectly bicameral: the two houses, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic have the same powers. The Prime Minister, officially President of the Council of Ministers , is Italy's head of government. The Prime Minister and the cabinet are appointed by the President of the Republic, but must pass a vote of confidence in Parliament to become in office. While the office is similar to those in most other parliamentary systems, the Italian prime minister has less authority than some of his counterparts. The prime minister is not authorized to request the dissolution of Parliament or dismiss ministers (that are exclusive prerogatives of the President of the Republic) and must receive a vote of approval from the Council of Ministers—which holds effective executive power—to execute most political activities.( From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). The government was very selfish and was not for the people, so I have to leave the county to make a better life for my family and I. The journey to America was a struggle having to sail in a small boat of 8 people to America. We have to struggle against whether and cold night on the Atlantic Ocean, but our hope kept us alive and gave us strength to make it during that tough journey to America. When we reach to Ellis Island we saw so many other immigrants from different country. They was happy and seem like that been through a struggle trying to get here like we did. The city we have settled in was call the Bronx which is in new York city. The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City. It is also known as Bronx County, the last of the 62 counties of New…
