My sophomore through senior year in high school I was enrolled in the JROTC program. The JROTC program teaches leadership skills and helps improve students confidence. There were two instructors, Colonel Barrack and Command Sergeant Major who we referred to as Sergeant Major. While colonel and command care about their students they have differences from their experiences and attitudes.
My sophomore year was Colonels first year as a high school instructor. I met him the same day I changed my schedule into the class. He was goofy and tried his best to relate to students but always ended up creating a lesson out of every situation. He was very energetic and enthusiastic. By the second semester he knew every cadet by name and by my senior year he didn’t lack energy. He was involved not only in the JROTC program but in all events going on around the school. His actual rank is Command Sergeant Major but for the sake of his cadets he lowered himself a rank. A friend of mine who I met in soccer suggested that I enroll in JROTC so I could join their color guard team. I went to one of their practices a week before they went to their national competition; this is where I met him. Unlike colonel he had been there for over twenty years for he was one of the founders of the JROTC program at Memorial High School. He was a witty and older than Colonel.
