For my job-shadow I went to Brimfield High School and spent the day with the lovely Kylie Hankosky. Ms. Hankosky is the band teacher at Brimfield and when I went there …show more content…
I saw her teach the High school and Junior High even though she teaches fifth grade through high school. For the job a person will need books on music, know to play all the instruments and how to read music. Instrument and such should be provided by the school. I believe that there always be a need for music teachers, unless teacher will be robots one day but I don’t think that will happen in my lifetime. I think people will always want to learn how to play an instrument even if they don’t teach at a school and they just give private lessons. Music will always be around and there will always be a need for people making new music.
I feel like what I expected the job to be was very close to what it is.
I thought it would be just like a teacher and you’d have different classes throughout the day. The one thing that was different is that the band has an eighty-six minutes class period at Brimfield and at Princeville we only have a forty minute class period. I think what I like most about the job is being able to work with music and give kids the same feeling that I had when I was learning about music. I’d love to have someone else experience that same feeling. I think the thing I disliked most is the kids not listening or being too loud when the teacher talked. I think that it is disrespectful to the teacher and a disruption to the kids who are trying to learn. I’m not certain that I would like to pursue this career. There are other things that i’m interesting in that I’m also thinking about going into but music education is definitely a strong option.
Someone should prepare for this career by first taking a basic math class. By knowing math a person will able to count rest in music and know how many beats are in a measure, so it’s really basic. I think a person will also need good communication skills to communicate to the student sand to the faculty. I think someone will have to have a very optimistic and patience attitude while in this job. You’ll need to be patience with all the kids because everyone learns at a different pace and I think every teacher needs to be optimistic when teaching
anything.
This paper included the details of my job-shadowing experience, what the future holds for this job, how would I relate to this job and how a person can prepare for this job. Music will always be an important part of my life. I have always loved music and I hope to widen my horizons after being at this job shadow. Just like what plato said, music is everything and everywhere and I truly believe that.
