“Wait here I will come get you guys when the coast is clear.” We hear that same sentence for 6 days straight.
After the third day of sleeping on the ground in a mountain we began to loose hope of ever crossing and completing the American dream. With no filtered water and a tomato and onion sandwich that the coyote would bring us everyday, once a day we started to lose weight fast. We were all scared and were told to not move from where we where, an open mountain area with a stream close by. We did not shower for 7 days nor brush our teeth. On the 8th day ,the time was now 1am and we crossed the Rio Grande. One by one they sat us on a truck tire and from the other side pull us to shore by a rope tied to the tire. We finally all safely crossed the Rio Grande. Once we crossed we walked three hours though mountain/ desert terrain until we finally approached a van where all 19 of is where expected to fit in.Not only was it us 19 but also the two Coyotes driving and passenger in the van. The entire ride took of all of 9 hours to California. When we arrived at our next location I sooned realized it belonged to and elder Costa Rican Woman. The elder had a full course meal on the fire waiting for
us. After 8 days and we finally had filtered water and could drink it without worry of illness we also now had a chance of showering, and I of course took the chance.Four other guys and I spent two days in california and took a paid trip to New Jersey after I got a call from one of my uncles saying there is job opportunities in Jersey, on a limb that I actually had an uncle in Ridgewood, New Jersey we flew over and he greeted me at the airport. Now the rest is history all you need to know is that I am a proud father of 7 wonderful, gorgeous, smart, kids, married to their mom and still have the same job as i did 33 years ago Head chef at a restaurant in RidgeWood, New Jersey.
