Personal Narrative: My Life In New England
In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New …show more content…
Over the years I became educated and skilled at clothing making and dreamed of profiting on my own and establishing a small shop in town to continue in the trade. My master and the family agreed to grant me a business loan and would donate the necessary tools to help me get started. Of course I would return the favor given the success of my business along with monthly payment installments. Getting started was difficult given my deformity due to small pox scarring, my family being loving and generous toward me were able to overlook my scars. The report of the masters clothing had spread across the village and many villagers were loyal customers, they saw that I was very skilled in my new found profession and continued business. Eventually business grew and we established a loyal customer base that got us through the threat of cheap slave labor. Although our prices fluctuated to compete with the slave owners our product was crafted with more integrity and kept business going. The need for products grew however customers were unable to always pay upfront forcing us to collect our profits. We started offering our customers discount opportunities for their loyal business and paying in cash. This helped our business receive more cash payments versus trade goods and lending

People know Vermont’s Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream and maple syrup better than they know Vermont itself. This was true for me as well: I had no idea where Vermont was before I actually stepped on this land three years ago. The town called Manchester was as rural as I could imagine, but it brought me a fresh living experience and inspired me to appreciate the beauty of nature.…

My Carolina story is one of perseverance. I grew up in a prominently white and underrepresented area, being a multicultural male it was very hard to fit in. However, with the backing of family and friends I was able to overcome many of the obstacles that plagued my area. Through hard work and dedication, I believe that anything is possible. It can be said that as long as you believe in yourself nothing is out of reach. For me this was the key to my success, however, upon applying to UNC-CH I was waitlisted. This greatly hurt my confidence as I felt as if I wasn't smart enough, but to my surprise I made it off the waiting list and enrolled in UNC. Nevertheless, the effects of being waitlisted lingered over me a long period of time. I found myself contemplating whether I was smart enough to attend such a prestigious university. Although soon enough I began to get involved on campus and through this I realized UNC was the best place for me and that no matter what I could make it at a esteemed university. The diversity that UNC offers was a vital key in helping to understand my place, I heard that "diversity creates identity" and this has been one of the strongest statements I have ever heard. My Carolina story is one of struggle and perseverance to fit in, yet, with hope and hard work you can accomplish anything.…

When I was younger, my aunt always told me “nothing's better than than fresh produce and growing up on it!” Growing up in Bath County was really different than Fort Defiance. No one could reach the maximum ability when he or she is uncomfortable. For me being, comfortable means being at home. After living for two years in Boston, leaving it has been one of the hardest decisions I have made. However, I could not stand the idea of staying out of that city, so I decided to come back as soon as I could. As a result, I started looking for schools in Boston to transfer to that had my major. One of the schools I found was Wentworth institute of technology, a university that I have been accepted to, but I could not study there because I did not fulfill the condition, which was a 79 or higher in TOEFL. Thus, I decided to apply to Wentworth Institute of Technology, so I could go back to the place I belong. Also, I chose…

Growing up in Southern Louisiana, I was raised in a “weird” way. I was taught to call all adults ma'am and sir when I was speaking to them, and “ya’ll” happens to be a regular word in my vocabulary. Loving the bayou, and being polite to everyone who earned it, is what I guess people call weird here in Colorado. I spent most of my life in Louisiana. It's my home.Everything about that place reminds me why I love it so much, most the people, the food, and pretty much everything except the weather. Everything was going great until I got home from school one day and my mom told me that we were moving.…

This summer I went to Rhode Island with my dad. We took our two kayaks on our Toyota Echo to go kayaking in a few of the lakes near our beach house. We stacked the two kayaks on top of each other, as that was the only way we could fit them safely on to the car. Before the seven hour trip to Rhode Island, we bought a few pairs of ratchets to hold the kayaks down. Our biggest concern was that the kayaks would slip off of the car due to the high speeds of the highways and the wind pressures.…

The Generation of Americans - to me it means the way us Americans have evolved in life. The things that we’ve overlooked things or things that we are still concerned about. Now I have only lived for 13 years I don’t really know what it means to value living here in America. I’m surrounded by hearing people talk about Donald Trump or other politics and I have to pick a side. I am not allowed to vote yet so I really don’t have to worry about those kind of things but my family does, a lot of people worry about it because it impacts the future of us Americans.…

My decision to have American school life was the biggest transformation in my life. The background of my family was very normal except that my parents were more exposed to English than any other Korean parents. My mom is an English teacher, and my dad is an electrical engineer. They both can read, write and speak English. I was exposed to English since I was young, and I started to learn the alphabet when I was three. I've been to an English speaking kindergarten, and an English-based international elementary school. As soon as I went into middle school, I started to forget commonly used English because I was had lesser opportunity to speak English at the school. While I was applying for international high school in Korea, I realized how much…

For most of my childhood, I had lived in the town of Aldershot, also known as the home of the British Army. Despite Aldershot being in the south of England and only about forty miles away from London, it wasn't exactly a dream town everyone wanted live in, although I can remember Aldershot's transition throughout the years and how it has changed since then. My family and I had moved to Aldershot when I was about four, living in a small house with only three rooms, with my parents working at a nearby restaurant whilst I went to school. I can recall how Every Saturday, I'd go to my fathers work and spend my time playing video games and when he was off duty, he'd take my mother and I to eat a delicious meal there! Of course, living in the south…
