Personal Narrative: My Love For Horses
My love for horses
Essay for college application

Standing in the arena next to this tall animal that could crush me scared me but also made me excited. The horse turns his head and softly nickers to me. I slowly lift my hand out to pet his enormous head. He takes a couple of steps towards me and I squeal a little and jump back afraid that he will crush me. He stops just an inch from me and nudges my hand searching for any smell of a treat. I laugh and turn to my teacher. She comes up to me and says “Ok, I’m going to give you a leg up so that you can get your foot into the stir-up.” I nod and step onto the crate that’s in front of me then I put my foot in to the cradle she made with her hands and all of a sudden I’m on that tall horse.

My teacher clipped the lunge line onto the bridle. I kick him into a walk and ask “Can I trot please?” She nods and I make a kissing noise to Dakota and say trot. He kicks into a faster pace and suddenly I’m laughing and having the best time in the world. This is the first time I have ever experienced trotting a horse all by myself. I go with the rhythm of the horse’s feet and post up and down in the saddle. After a while I stop Dakota and slid off the left side of him and give him a huge hug around his neck. I can feel him breathing really hard on my neck and I giggle. I grab the reins and lead him out of the arena and to the barn where I un-tack him. Putting the tack away was extremely difficult for me because I wasn’t strong at all. But as I grew older I became stronger. After everything was put away and cleaned, I grabbed a carrot and headed back to Dakota I lay my hand flat and feel his lips slide across my hand to grab …show more content…

There are also several other majors that have to do with horses that I would love to go into but I don’t know if they are for me. There are several colleges that have to do with these majors and this was one of them. I had to choose between colleges all around the United States. I choose this one because it was closer to home and on weekends or break I could easily just drive back up to Michigan to see my family and friends. There is nothing better than being able to drive back to see your family and friends that you haven’t seen in a while or a week. I hate the idea of being so far away from my family and friends that need help. Another thing that I like about this college is that it will help provide you with the 100 hours of internships. You have so many options of internships at some of the top locations in the country. That is something that I am very interested in to where I can get more experience in some of the areas that I would like to major in for most of my life. Finally I noticed that there are some great facilities at your campus. A very large stable to hold around 110 horses for everyone to use. Several arenas you can choose from. A couple outdoor arenas and one indoor arena for dressage and floor work. I

Column chromatography was invented by Tswett in 1906 so that his study of the chemistry of chlorophyll could be facilitated. Tswett made significant advances in the method and demonstrated its applicability to the separation of many different kinds of mixtures. Column chromatography rapidly found application in all areas of chemistry and is used extensively today because it is a simple but powerful tool for the separation of pure compounds from a complex mixture. It cannot affect the same degree of separation as TLC, but its advantage over TLC is the fact that large amounts of mixtures (over 5 g) can easily be treated by this method. There are, however, a number of important similarities between TLC and column chromatography which, when the two methods are used in complementary fashion, allow preparative separations to be accomplished easily and quickly. The same comments that were made concerning adsorbents and solvents for TLC apply also to column chromatography. In particular, by using TLC initially to determine a solvent system for separation of a mixture, one can quickly find the solvent system that will effect separation of the same mixture on a column of the same adsorbent. (In other words, if a particular solvent system effects separation on, say, alumina with TLC, a very similar solvent system will effect separation of a column, provided that alumina of the same type is used as adsorbent.…

I broke my arm today while getting on the freight train. Thank God I still have an arm unlike some of the other I have meet who have lost an arm or leg and some even know someone who has lost their life ( Riding the Rails). I have done this a couple of time now and I shouldn't have been so anxiety about it but I was. I hide under the track outside the yard like I normally do, waiting for the train to reach momentum so I could get on. Right when I was getting on the trains, I heard the bull guards yelling and chasing after me. It threw me off my balance and I nearly fell off the train. I…

“Time heals all wounds” a saying everyone will hear at least once in their lifetime. Does a person have to go through a life changing experience to find self-knowledge and self-acceptance? In Richard Wagamese’s novel “Indian Horse” self-knowledge and self-acceptance is what I will explore. Comparing and contrasting the journey of Saul Indian Horse to the journey of my own mother Yvonne Nepoose. Initially people go through adverse situations in life that leave them feeling isolated. They feel the need to turn to self destructive behaviors to forget the pain; however, this response in turn hurts others as well as themselves. To overcome the pain they feel they must accept the love and help of others. In doing so this will compel them to be resilient.…

I was almost labeled a hamster killer. The first pets i got were dwarf hamsters. I went to petsmart with my mom and picked out two hamsters that were supposedly both girls, but one ended up being a boy. One's name was Caesar and the other Felipe. They weren’t always the nicest, but that didn’t make me love them any less. There was this one time that both of my dwarf hamster's got out while i was at school. My mom told me when i got home that she closed the door to my bedroom because they had escaped. I searched everywhere in my room for them. One hamster was under my bed and the other under my sister's bed since we shared a room at the time. Hamsters always find a way to get into the hardest places to find them in. I caught the one under my sisters bed and he was fine. When i went to get the other one out something funny, but sad happened. I have bins with wheels on them that i would roll under my bed and store stuff in. I had to roll the one under my bed out to see where the hamster was because i couldn't find her. So, as im doing this my mom came in the room to see if i had caught them. I was rolling the bin out as i saw something flat squashed on the floor…

As a young teen I always dreamt of accomplishing something that would have people’s eyes opened. Many doors were opened right before me and I could’ve walked through anyone. Having that opportunity I took the advantage I had and tried several doors. Doing so, after a while I never had the intentions of finishing what I began because nothing came naturally to me. At that point of my life I was 13 years old. The typical age of a girl who wants to be noticed for something outstanding as the athletes or celebrities in magazines and television. During recess my girlfriends were talking about shopping, nails, and makeup. For an odd reason during those conversations I always felt like the outcast snoozing out occasionally. Trying to find something different to do with my time, out of curiosity I ease dropped on the boys’ conversation for a few minutes. Weirdly, I wanted to become a part of it. As curiosity killed I continued listening to the conversation. Between all the gibberish spoken, horse racing was brought up. It was as random as snow on a summer day to bring up, but aside from it being random the idea of horse riding sounded interesting. Walking home from school, I was filled with excitement to ask my parents about it. To them it was just one of my ridiculous ideas I was fantasizing about. The next day I ran in to my old friend Milana. As we were talking I mentioned horse riding to her and ironically her cousin worked at the stables just a half an hour away. Her name was Jess, she was older then us by a few years. Jess worked there for so long it became apart of her life; she knew everything and everyone at the stables. I ran home to tell my parents about it. As ridiculous as it sounded it finally came to their thought as to what they had to loose, or what did I have to loose. The weekend came along and together with Milana, to make it for Jess’s late hours when no one was there, we drove down to the stable.…
