Personal Narrative: My Opportunity To Visit Alsip, Illinois
This Summer I had the opportunity to visit Alsip, Illinois. Alsip is an area that’s about on the North East side of the state and it’s somewhat near Chicago Ridge, Midlothian, etc. It also has an exit on 65 and you might recognize its all red, white, and blue water tower. I’ve missed my old neighborhood dearly and I just had to go back sometime. I use to live in Alsip for about 7 and a half years out of my 13 that I’ve lived. I’ve always gone to the same school district where everyone knew everyone. There were definitely not many new kids who came to Alsip every year so once you knew your grades students and all their names, then they were who you always stuck with. But you know by the time I was 11/12 then I was always hanging out with my
friends. Yeah that included lots of times where I got in trouble but that isn’t the point. I moved away unexpectedly on September 15, 2016 (of course I remember the day) and it was definitely one of the worst days ever. Now I didn’t think I’d even get to visit back there to see my old friends again but I did in May of this year for a friends birthday party. It was a great experience but I didn’t get to see my best friend (at the time) so I just knew I had to visit again soon.
Then a few weeks later after school ended, I went straight to West Lawn (which is right near Chicago), saw my mom, and went to Alsip every single day. I hung out with my (now) ex-best friend Laila each of those days. We went to McDonald’s often because that was like ‘the place’ for Prairie kids (Prairie is my old middle school.) Everyone hung out there so she invited me to go with her and some of my other friends. We didn’t even stay there long and we just walked around by Stony Creek which is one of the elementary schools. And that was only the first time going back there. Now the second time I hung out with my best friend Alana at her house. We walked around the area and met up with two of our friends- Julian and Tyler. Then there was this one girl who was around 17 and she was really funny as in she was trying to seem tough but she wasn’t so it was just goofy to us. So basically what happened is she thought we were messing with her and making fun of her- which never happened! I guess she felt the need to decide to chase us and it was very hilarious.
Lastly on my way back to Demotte, we went Downtown Chicago and it was super busy along with a lot of traffic because of Lollapalooza. We spent about 20 minutes trying to get to a starbucks that was down the street and 2 blocks down. Along with the ride on 65 it was real busy especially with an accident that slowed it down even more. A 45 minute ride literally turned into an almost 2 hour ride. I ended up staying out in Munster for 6-7 hours before returning back home in Demotte.
I haven’t been back to Alsip since but I can’t wait till I do because I most definitely miss my friends so much. I want to ask them about school too and see if anything’s changed since I left too.
