When I graduated to the second grade I notice my problem with reading was affecting my grades. My second grade teacher Ms. Williams assembled reading groups and the highest reading group was The Dragons and the lowest was The Snakes. I was placed in The Snake Group during reading time. Not only was being in The Snake Group depressing, but my teacher begin to consider special education to my parents. I had no learning disabilities and my parents knew special education class was not the place for me. My parents had faith in me and invested their money into a learning to read program called Hooked on Phonics. I had difficulty reading and through observational learning programs, I was able to develop as a learner. The learning did not stop there, I begin to observe my environment like my sister and peers to gain knowledge. From modeling their behaviors I was able to expand my learning and reading abilities. Within learning how to read I developed and enhance my skills as a student. This led to a spark in my academic performance as a student and with the guide of reinforces and punishers, I archived a master status of becoming an honor student. As of now, learning has had a tremendous impact on my growth in life. In life, I was one of those students who were let down by teachers. I had plenty of teachers who did not have an ounce of faith in me. When it came to learning I was discouraged and frustrated to the point where I wanted to quit. Graduating from the program and becoming an honor student encourage me to never give up. I stop listening to people who told me “I cannot’” or told me to “just to stop”. When introspecting my life, learning has brought me a long way. I have accomplished so much as a student. My second year at Morgan University I was on the Dean’s list. From there on out, I have always maintained a grade point average of above a 3.0. I am truly blessed to have the support of my family and peers in my life.
