Not being patient for things but being patient towards a human being. I have been a camper at Illahee for eight years and have grown into myself there. For the past seven years I have gone to camp for myself, to create my own memories, and become the independent young adult I am. But this last year my camp experience was much different. I had become a CIT, which meant that my purpose was to help nourish and teach the younger girls. I was now responsible for helping other girls create life lasting memories that I had created. I definitely struggled with this immense change and it was difficult to adjust. There was this one girl, 12 years old named Gabby, who was crazy. She was loud and obnoxious the entire session and it drove me insane. But I had to learn to be patient and compassionate towards her so she could form good memories of camp. At the end of the four-week session I realize that my compassion and patience was what had helped her flourish. She taught me the importance of being aware of others and the patient is truly a virtue. Even though this camp year was not about me, I got more gratification helping Gabby, as well as other girls, find themselves than I had any other
